For small town America, Walmart is their department store.
you see a lot of methed-out, nose-ringed wiggers, fat people with oxygen tanks riding Rascal carts, extended families with two shopping carts and 11 kids all shopping together.
It’s unsettling for someone from two-and-a-half kids, new car every 6 years, 401k America.
I hate going there, but necessity sometimes dictates. It is generally crowded, 30 registers... only 3 of which are ever open... and the clients are not my kind of people.
My major pet peeve is that it is impossible to get in and out in a hurry. They do not enforce the item limit in the "speed line." It's just another checkout line.
The self-check registers are rarely all up and running, and the line there is long because the speed line is too clogged for people with only a handful of items.
If you are frustrated, or even angry, every time you leave a retail establishment... well, that answers the question.
The Walmart near me (Midlothian, VA next to Richmond) is fine...go there when my errand list has me picking up groceries and a few hardware or automotive items, thus avoiding two stops. Generally though I shop at Kroger’s because to my eye the prices are better for most things at my Kroger.
It's clean, very clean, well maintained. I'm disappointed that I've never seen any "Walmartians" there; quite the contrary- there's always some smokin hotties about.
I only shop at Walmart for drugstore items. Normal grocery shopping is done at the KP International Market in Rancho Cordova, CA (Asian groceries for my stepdad) and WinCo in Folsom, CA for regular groceries.
I try not to shop there because I value quality. Quality is not Wal-Marts first concern. I am tired of spending money only to have the product fall apart due to cheap production cost Wal-Mart demands from its vendors. I have much more respect for manufacturers who will not bow to Wal-Marts demands.
I had a friend that manufactured a product in the USA. Wal-Marts buyer approached him about selling his item. His wholesale price was about $35 per item. They told him they would buy around 100,000 on their first order but he had to get the price down to $15 each and fit it into a much smaller box. They gave him a list of Chinese manufacturers who could do it and gave him drawings on how they would like it packaged. He declined. One of the nerd type stores picked it up and finally he sold the rights to another company and that continued to make it in the USA. This was 15 years ago.
Today I’m told they just order stuff from Chinese knock off companies friends m the get go.
I shop at Walmart a lot. But I’m not in a low class hood.
Of course. Need you ask....?
I frequently shop at Walmart. The brands I buy are the same offered elsewhere but almost always lower priced. Like many retail chains, some stores are poorly run and some are well run. Super Walmarts are fine but some old regular Walmart stores trying to pack more stuff in their small facility can be crowded, have small isles and seem disorganized.
I’d rather do my grocery shopping at the gas station than any walmart.
When I lived in seattle, I avoided WM at all costs. Totally ghetto. In my small town in central KY it’s fine. But now that I’ve shopped there I’ve learned that companies make crappy versions of their stuff just for Sal Mart. I only buy cheap stuff there and never anything with moving parts or classified as “durable goods”. There is no such thing there.
I go to Walmart every so often. I admit the people there are “unique”.
The packaged groceries are a little less pricey than supermarkets. The store by me has a pretty decent fishing selection to. While I love the small business experience or mom-and-pop tackle shops, they charge an arm and a leg for tackle that I might very well end up losing. Walmart has much better prices on expendable tackle.
Gee, back in the day when Wal-Mart got shoplifted and decided not to stop it, that opened the door for what they are today. They aren’t my store of choice unless I have a specific thing on my mind and am looking to get it cheaply. You have to pick a good neighborhood before I’ll go in but the shopping experience is no worse than most of the others.
Walmart is my Macys.
I go to my local Wally World (Chesapeake - Deep Creek South) when I need something NOW and the other stores are closed. It’s not a bad experience, the sales clerks will TRY to help you find what you’re looking for, but they are almost always clueless. Frankly, I don’t like the long walk through the parking lot at night (although there’s usually a police cruiser there) ....but if you’re just dropping in to pick up one or two things, it’s not unbearable.
I shop there. Why the hell would I pay twice the price at Target or at Safeways?
Since Obama came into office, our income has gone down. So, I’m going to shop where the best prices are. And if that means Walmarts, so be it.
Never had an issue. We have 3 close by. Two are definitely 3rd world and are very crowded. Ours can be also but its a mile away, not across town.
I don’t think Walmart has any more crappy stuff than Tar-jay.
How much do you really want to spend on work out britches?
Can’t really beat their pharmacy and we have shopped around. We consider ourselves middle class, a higher middle class than dumbles include, which is anyone breathing and not homeless.
::shrug:: Never felt like a riot was going to breakout anywhere nor an attack. I DO not have patience with group shopping like a lot of folks not from around here tend to do.
Yes and a lot of them have all that bass and a lot of ink too.
