If polls are accurate, an irredeemable nincompoop is about to be become leader of this nation.
The above sentence might have appeared in any number of newspapers in the United States during the unfortunate autumn of 2008.
Alas, it is written in and of my beloved Canada.
Having learned nothing from the past seven years of American decline under President Barack Obama, Canada is poised to elect its own media-approved, know-nothing dilettante in the person of Justin Trudeau.
Justins father, Pierre, was a Castro-snuggling socialist and among the most consequential prime ministers in Canadian history. Justin evinces the worst traits of his father, without any of the senior Trudeaus qualities; to wit, he embodies an utterly unexamined, leftist worldview, while possessing none of the intellectual heft or professional accomplishment to back it up.
One upside is that with Justin, unlike Obama, you can point out the unmistakeable truth that he is a dimwit without being called, yknow, a racist.
Relatedly, we have been spared the enforced soft bigotry of having to pretend Justin is a genius or a brilliant speaker, as was the case with Obama.
One of our northern FReepers commented that this assclown is most likely gonna be it. After all, he was quoted as saying, “I’ll get right in Putin’s face.” Sure you will justine.
Which candidate is Soro’s funding?
Yeah, Lips puckered.
Stephen Harper will win this. Canadian sheeple aren’t as stupid as American sheeple.
The CBC worships trudeau like he was a god there so I;m sure they will be shilling for his kid. If this ass clown becomes PM, he might be far worse than PM Martin who was probably the most anti American PM ever.
there’s a reason why the Conservative Party in BC keeps asking me for additional donations...
You underestimate the stupidity of people in general.
You’d think the Canuks would still remember the first Trudeau’s damage...
Obama is no doubt, pulling for all he is worth that Harper is defeated. There are reports of Obama regime money and advisers involved in the Canadian election.
Nanos Poll latest.
Popular vote
Liberal 37.3%
Conservative 30.5%
New Democratic Party 22.5%
This poll accurately predicted an upset in Alberta's provincial election a few months ago. Conservatives defeated by the NDP, after thirty years of prosperity. I have viewed elections in Canada for over fifty years. Never have I seen such a bias and virtual shilling for one candidate who is Justin Trudeau. This unless one recalls Trudeau mania for his father Pierre.
We have the Harper Derangement Syndrome coupled with Trudeau mania phase two. Prime Minister Harper has absolutely no scandal even whispered about him. He by nature, is not your hail fellow well met. A private person and family man. Yet the "hate" theme -"Harper must go" is the mantra of many. No real reasons why are articulated.
There are 338 seats in the Parliament up for grabs. Harper's government has fought against the wearing of the niqab at citizenship ceremonies. They were trying to bring in Bill C-51, against the screams of the human rights Johnnies. This was to have extra surveillance of persons who might become terrorists in Canada.
Don't Canadians flock over the border for health care because of their wonderful single payer system (socialized medicine)????
Yeah ... he is going to win based on the polls. There is going to be a big shift left shortly in Canada.
And who is going to elect him? Smart people? Or dummies?
A fairly good chance of a minority situation after the votes are counted. In Canada, we have two parties that split the vote of the U.S. Democratic Party vote profile, the Liberals (who pose as centrist) and the New Democrats (who are nominally leftist but in this election have tried to reverse the paradigm by appearing more centrist than the Liberals).
As you probably know, there is no national vote for the leaders. The prime minister is elected indirectly by being the leader of the winning party. If no party wins a majority of our 338 “ridings” then two parties can form a coalition government. This seems to be the most likely outcome to me. Even if the Harper conservatives win the largest group, if it’s a minority then it may not be able to govern. At that point, once defeated on a vote of non-confidence in the House of Commons, the next step is for our Governor-General (the Queen’s representative in Canada) to call in some other party leader to discuss whether or not he can form a government by coalition. If that fails, we go back to another election (otherwise we now have a fixed term of four years for our governments, the constitution used to specify a maximum of five).
My prediction is that the Conservatives and Liberals will be nearly tied around 120 seats each, the NDP will have about 80, so a Liberal-NDP coalition might be the eventual outcome. The wild card is that we have a Quebec separatist party that can win anywhere from 5 to 20 seats possibly, and they could try to work with the Conservatives for a while, if the combined total were high enough.
Justin Trudeau would be a disaster, although his party does have some reasonably competent economic advisors in it, so maybe more of a public relations disaster. We already have socialized health care so we can’t fear that coming anyway.
Yes, Canadians flock over the border for medical care. They flock all the way down to the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs area) of the California low desert. Every Winter they come here by the thousands to spend the colder months. Once here, those with surgical needs flock mostly to Eisenhower Medical Center for their procedures. Eisenhower even has special advertising aimed directly at Canadians and offers them special financial plans. Why do the Canadians have their surgeries performed in the US? The answer is simply because the wait times for non-emergency surgeries in Canada can be many months long as compared to only a few days in the US.
I think the only REAL question this point is whether or not Trudeau’s coronation will be a minority or a majority govt.
The thing that makes me most upset about this whole thing is that it’s essentially going to be proof positive that Generation X is now, and will always BE politically irrelevant. Gen X can be as conservative as they want to be, but they’re not even a small FRACTION of the numbers of the Trudeaumaniac baby boomers, and the Gen Y SJWs. :(
