Mayonnaise Is The Worst Condiment
thefederalist.com ^ | Oct. 2, 2015 | William Kelly III

There exists in this world a condiment below all others. It has all of the flavor of sawdust and the sublime texture of soap scum. Until recently, I was unaware that The Federalist, lovers of freedom, etc., was complicit in its spread. I rise today to defend America—nay, the world—against such scurrilous anti-food propaganda.

As all Americans, especially Texans, know, mayonnaise is a tool of oppression used by communists and bland-food lovers everywhere. It is a form of mind control designed to cow you into a sense of complacency about life. Food has flavor, and mayo covers that flavor up. It destroys your ability to taste.

What do you do to a food if it is too intense, and you’re not Texan? You add mayonnaise. In much the same way that salt is used to flavor food, mayonnaise is used to bland it. It is flavor’s anti-particle: it annihilates on contact.

Throw a nanner on that peanut butter and mayo sandwich, add a handful of tater chips and a glass of iced sweet tea and you got a *snack* fit for a king.

Why do threads like this get so active?

A distraction from so much bad news. No matter how strongly you feel about politics or the state of the world, you need a break from it every now and then. Same reason musicals and comedies were so big in the Great Depression.

Not sure I tried vinegar on fries.

BLT’s never did much for me. Bacon belongs by scrambled eggs at breakfast every so often. I could never stand it on a sandwich or ruining the taste of a good burger.

Real mayonnaise isn’t disgusting, but it’s gotten hard to find. The “Lite” stuff separates quickly on a sandwich, gets runny and has an odd taste.

Fresh garden tomatoes and mayo go together.

Now that looks good. Cream cheese is way better than mayo.

“A reasonable function of government under the interstate commerce clause, I should think.”

I think it is usurped authority, and therefore, illegal authority.

Sorry. Born and raised Buffalonian.

The only thing that goes on roast beef is horseradish.

Beef on weck with dill pickles and curly cue fries with salt and vinegar.

MMMMMMMMM...........

The roll on the right is the kimmelweck roll. The left hand one is a nasty plain hard roll.

I am not a big horseradish fan, but I would eat it before mayo. I do love spicy mustard in general.

Your meal there looks good, though.

If you’re ever in Buffalo, one of those is a must, along with genuine Buffalo chicken wings and pizza.

At the place I worked before I got married, the salesmen who came through LOVED to have Buffalo as part of their territory because whenever they came into town, they’d treat their customers to dinner and would be taken to Buffalo’s best restaurants.

Buffalo may not have a lot going for it in many areas, but in food, there is no comparison. They know how to eat.

My Mom was one of 3 Girls and 4 Boys. They grew up without a Pot to Piss in or a Window to throw it through. Her Father left the Family and my Mother had to take care of the Household. Her Mother was in bad Health so it fell to her to take care of everyone when she was only 16 or so. She had to quit High School and get a menial Job to help the Family survive.

I ended up hearing about the Depression until the day my Mother died. Heck, when I was Born we lived in a Brownstone Basement with no Heat. My Dad got $3 off the Rent because he took out the Trash for the entire Building.

My Parents had to heat up Water in an Iron Cistern which also gave the Apartment some warmth. There were Rats as big as Cats in the Hallway and my poor Mother suffered from Pleurisy because of the living conditions. It also worsened my Older Brother’s Asthma symptoms. We eventually got out of there when my Father was able to get a House on Long Island with the GI Bill from his Navy Service in WWII.

I can’t imagine that the Young People today would even survive such a situation. They haven’t a clue of what real suffering is, nor do they seem to care unless it’s a Lion in Africa or a complaining Minority blaming everyone but themselves for their bad station in Life.

Then again, they aren’t worried about eating having to eat Mayonnaise Sandwiches and wiping their Rear Ends with discarded Newspaper either.

Sorry, didn’t mean to get off topic on a “happy” Thread.

Sounds good. I may need to make a trip to Jack Stack Barbecue. That is the only type option I have near me.

That was the difference between city and country in that era. My dad came from a large family that farmed. Patched hand-me-downs or flour sack fabric remade into clothes, nothing much in the way of material possessions whatsoever, they had little money. But, they did own the farm. ate well and were generally happy. Didn’t really know they were poor because everyone they knew was in the same boat.
