There may be a deliberate message in this approach, mind you.

If the pope is Christ's representative on earth, and this pope does not even attempt to convey Christ's message in his dealings with the secular/pagan world, then this may be a subtle, implicit recognition that these people and nations have willfully rejected Him.

The Pope thinks Americans associate him with fried chicken
ever since he began reading Popeye’s as Pope-yes!

I’m not sure what you mean by “out of context.” Most of those parables are told with multiple layers of context. They offer an immediate message to the listener at that point in history when Christ walked on the earth, but they also convey a larger, more abstract message that becomes more clear over time.

Yeah. The same thing happened to Jesus. They called him evil too. It’s okay, God knows me and I am one of His disciples:)

“Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute was brought to Jesus, and He healed him, so that the mute man both spoke and saw. 23 All the people wondered in amazement, and said, “Could this be the Son of David (the Messiah)?” But the Pharisees heard it and said, “This man casts out demons only by [the help of] Beelzebul (Satan) the prince of the demons.” (Matt 12:22-24)

It is my understanding that RC “tradition” has been elevated to equal authority as the Bible, giving us such unbiblical “truths” as the Ascension.

That is one thought. Others would make a passionate argument that one can read to much into a parable, and reading into it more than what is taught in a straight forward manner is dangerous. A clear reading of the passage in Luke tells us that the Pharisee did not consider others as his neighbor whom he was to love as himself. And the explanation of the parable by Jesus tells us the same thing. But yeah, a person can read whatever they want into the parable to mean whatever they want it to mean.

>> How’s that work?

Simple!

The subject of the argument is “Jesus Direct Flight”, or “Jesus, with a required stopover in Popeville”. Right?

The Trinity, baptism, Jonah, the Creation, and your kitchen sink, among many other things, aren’t covered in John 15, either... but so what? They’re not germane to the argument

The guy in the funny hat IS germane, and HE is not mentioned as a gatekeeper to my Friend JESUS. Point stands.

The Pope obviously does not understand the tearing of the veil in the Temple.

Again, I don’t have to prove anything to you.

I know who I am in Christ - I don’t need your approval. A true servant of Christ knows this. Are you a servant of Christ or the pope???

“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” (Gal 1:10)

What? From Acts 1:6-11 ...

They therefore who were come together, asked him, saying: Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? But he said to them: It is not for you to know the times or moments, which the Father hath put in his own power: But you shall receive the power of the Holy Ghost coming upon you, and you shall be witnesses unto me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and even to the uttermost part of the earth. And when he had said these things, while they looked on, he was raised up: and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they were beholding him going up to heaven, behold two men stood by them in white garments.

Who also said: Ye men of Galilee, why stand you looking up to heaven? This Jesus who is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come, as you have seen him going into heaven.

My point is that most of us fail the clear and simple reading. The same clear and simple reading that was applicable to the pharisee of that time. And that clear and simple reading has stood the test of time and is still appropriate for all of us.

I’ve always respected the Popes during my lifetime. Until now.

Maybe so. His words are very subtle. Yes, perhaps he believes that being forceful wouldn’t work with the secular world.

Waiting to see what he says next. He’s scheduled to be in my area tomorrow. Most of us will never get to see him in person, but we are expecting traffic jams.

Lol, what Church did Saul/Paul attend/centrally established while converting gentiles as he was running for his most of the time? I could go on and on...especially those saved from house Churches/fellowship gatherings/government oppression after the Resurrection. Many were persecuted just for possessing a torn page from the Bible (After the Resurrection and continues to this day). Church was out of the question for them, just like the thief on the cross.

Everything revolves around the Gospel, where “You shall find rest because My yoke is easy and My burden light.” Hmmm...

I am not advocating the "personnel relationship" where you can justify/attempt to rationalize with God; faith and following Christ's commands is good enough for God.

Since we are by default social creatures, it is good that fellowship in Christ is established. But a person who faithfully attends Church can still fall prey to the rationalization deception as "born again'ers" do.

In what verse does Jesus invite you to be his “buddy?”

I'm not sure "buddy" is the right word, but Jesus called his disciples friends, so I guess that would classify as a personal relationship. Of course, having his Spirit come live within your heart makes it a very intimate relationship.

John 15:15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.
