I'm not a Trump supporter, but he's definitely making things fun.

I really like it that Trump has seasoned to the point that when he tells some MSM hack where to head in, he does it in an almost humorous fashion now. He is so confident, with the continuing escalation of his poll numbers, etc. that he’s waaay more relaxed, and just talks to his crowds on an open and honest folksy level. He really had it down on Saturday in Nashville.

I watched a couple of old interviews of Trump on youtube that dated back to the early 80's. It was almost difficult to tell if it was the same man or not. The person I watched seemed hurt by the media lies and didn't know what to do about it.

Now he makes mince meat out of the media. He is a tough guy.

Now, when Trump does something I like/agree with, I post that too

I'm not a Trump supporter at all, in fact I don't believe he is even a conservative. Saying that, I agree with you here. If someone in the race does something you agree with, no reason not to say so. If nothing else it displays intellectual honesty.

It just so happens for as many problems I have with "the Donald" he does do things I like quite a lot such as the immigration plan he put out, the way he sticks it to the media, the way he resists political correctness, etc.

Well, again, Trump calls currency devaluation some kind of offensive move by China, when it actually is a sign of Chinese economic confusion. Money gauges economic strength like a thermostat gauges the temp. Changing measurements on the thermostat doesn’t change the temps. Likewise changing the comparative valuation of money doesn’t change a country’s economic condition. Money doesn’t CAUSE economic strength, it is the RESULT and MEASURE of economic strength.

When countries start manipulating their comparative currency value instead of letting the market do it, then it is a sign of weakness and confusion, which is what happened to the U.S. when we deliberately devalued the dollar. Basing currency on a fixed standard like gold gives that currency stability and reliability which the markets need.

Why Trump is leading EVERY state and national poll. This is unheard of in last 50 years.

This Trump phenomena is entirely due to Americans being sick of losing. They are thirsty for America winning again.

They are tired of being
screwed by China, Japan, Mexico, middle-east wars,

Liberal legislators who are increasing the height of welfare pyramid every quarter,
new business start ups are now net negative,

illegal invasion accompanied by violent crimes,

college graduates not finding jobs commensurate with their education,

middle class wages stagnant,

Planned Parenthood selling baby parts,

Hedge fund managers paying less tax rates than ordinary middles class jobs such as teachers & firefighters,

H1-B visa explosion taking jobs from American citizens, legal immigrants getting social security without contributing a dime in taxes,

infra-structure looking like a 3rd world country,

wounded veterans receiving sub-standard healthcare,
Obamacare & soon to come Hillarycare,

loss of American military power,

and phony MAN-MADE global warming crowd.

Based on your response, I suspect we like him for the same reasons.

Anyone who's under the impression that Trump's a Conservative is seriously delusional and needs meds. By Trump's own admission, he considers himself a fiscal Conservative and a social Liberal.

IMO even the fiscal Conservative claim I think is suspect, perhaps that just me.

Having said all that, I posted on here long ago that Trump's more of a "populist" candidate. About a month or so ago I posted something along the lines that Trump's appeal spans traditional political lines and boundaries, and that along with grassroots "Conservatives" and evangelical voters, Trump was also attracting the Yellow-Dog and Blue-Dog democrats which means he's dipping into the traditional union strong-hold that the Democrats have had on the Unions, and the Blue Dog Democrats that used to be called the Reagan Democrats.

I hold to those words. It's interesting to watch how Trump's learning quickly to refine his message and use the media in a similar way that Reagan did back in 1980.

That's NOT to call Trump "Reaganesque" by any stretch. He's not. It's just a narrow similarity between the two.

I’ve seen this disclaimer so many times it seems like all the journalists and pseudo journalist plaster this disclaimer before they begin to comment on Trump.

They will say that they would not be caught dead supporting Trump and that Trump is just not worth their support, but then they say that Trump is the only one with the guts to take on the entire establishment and these gutless journalists will then say that Trump deserves a gold star plastered to his forehead for his little efforts.

What absolute arrogance on the part of these pencil warriors. Trump is taking on a huge challenge that no one has the stamina or the courage to.

When these pencil warriors put the disclaimer on their articles it shows they have no conviction of their opinions. They have no idea what is going on and so they have to play it safe. What jokes they are!

Yup, that is what Trump really is - a populist. More precisely an anti-intellectual, populist protectionist with some conservative positions that happen to be some big ones people care about now (namely dealing with the border and immigration). The protectionist part would be rejected by most conservatives but he is framing it more as nationalism which appeals to many people. And after years of endless "blame America first" and "apology tours" I do agree we could use a bit of nationalism.

I don't believe Trump is an ideological conservative at all. I don't think he is grounded in conservative thought and that means I really don't trust that he would default to conservative positions in office. However, before making the assumption that he'd go off the rails as President we have to look at who he is surrounding himself with. Going to someone like Jeff Sessions for immigration ideas is a good start. If he continues going to conservatives for help with detailed policy positions, a lot of ideological conservatives may have less doubts about him overall.

The fact that Trump is challenging the mainstream media narrative and attacking political correctness are two things I really like about him and as he is generally coming from the right in those areas which is somewhat reassuring.

Still, populism has a history of ending badly - whether that be the left or right versions. The idea that he is promoting that we'd all be rich and everything would be terrific if it weren't for Mexico, China, Japan, etc, is truly nonsense. There is no way to go back to the post WW2 world where the US was the country in such better shape than everyone else we could afford absurdly expensive union contracts and a monopoly on much of the worlds manufacturing/industry.

Anyway, I agree with your original point - when Trump or any candidate says something we agree with it is intellectually honest to say so. More than that, there is no reason we all can't be agreeable and compliment one another's preferred candidate if they do something deserving of applause.

Those are binary voters. If a candidate gets their “yes”, then they support him 100% and trash everybody else. If that candidate gets their “no”, then nothing that candidate does can be laudable or worthy. There are a ton of these kinds of voters on Freerepublic.

I personally think that right there, almost 7 years of Obama bashing the sh*t out of America and his lawless ways, people are hungry for someone to come along and "Make America Great Again." Gee, who was the last President to do something similar? (No, I'm not comparing Trump to Reagan but one cannot ignore the very narrow similarities between them, and the similarities in the country's mood back in 1978-1980 and today.)

"Make America Great Again" resonates for a whole lot of reasons which I posted elsewhere and I don't feel like repeating here.

The day I put my "Make America Great Again" cap on (which I just HAD to buy because I agree with that sentiment!) is the day I'd be endorsing Trump. Until then, I'm still a casual/interested observer in the whole process.

This thing they like to call “trade imbalance” is a false alarm, like what they use to jack up minimum wage.

How did tiny little resource-poor Hong Kong get to be an economic giant? By setting up tariffs on every import because they were importing more than they were exporting? No. By letting the voluntary cooperation of the free market economy run its course, Hong Kong accumulated wealth over time by buying and selling on the open market, regardless of “trade imbalance.” The key was NO GOVERNMENT INTERFERENCE. The same is true with us today. As Reagan used to say, “Government is the problem, not the solution.” It is the feds with their minimum wage, union protection, and tonnage of useless, costly regulations that drive business away from the U.S.

Tariffs, which is more government interference, completely fail to address those DIRECT CAUSES and in fact make the problem worse, as the feds always do in meddling with economic matters.

“I am FAST warming up to Trump. Even Trump/Cruz”

Or Trump/Carson...

With a Trump/Carson landslide and a REALLY conservative House and Senate, Cruz could get the Senate in line, or he could be Attorney General for the prosecutions that will be necessary. Then when the first SCOTUS opening occurs, appoint Cruz. And when Roberts sees fit to throw in the towel, elevate Cruz to Chief Justice. Cruz in young. Long live Cruz and a conservative Supreme Court! Trump, Trump, Carson, Carson would have opportunity to assure a conservative SCOTUS for the next twenty years. And Cruz could preside over that conservative SCOTUS for the duration.

I like Trump. I like Carson. I love Cruz...

“Wonder what he meant by “mongoose”. Kind of a snake killer?”

A mongoose is not an ordinary snake killer. A mongoose kills cobra’s. The feared hooded cobra’s. Mongoose always wins.

So, if we look at the Biblical perspective, ‘snake’ is equivalent to Satan. Dims are also equivalent to Satan (poetic license) :)
