As I was on the highway Friday, I danced across the AM radio dial and internet streams to hear many of the Republican faithful begin to throw dirt in what they believe is a dead Trump for President campaign. Saw the responses, the polls etc (Trump still leading). Then I wake up Saturday morning to see I prediction I made earlier this week come true. So now, I write this stern warning to all my conservative brethren:
DONT DUMP TRUMP YET.
Before stating my case, heres the prediction I made in an early Free Republic post 4 days before the Thursdays debate: My prediction: No matter what the Donald does Thursday, theyll try to spin something into a negative - and probably wont report on any other candidate if they can get away with it
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3319764/posts
This was a pretty easy prediction. I know the media. I worked with many of these SOBs for too long. Their template was already there, they were just waiting to fill in the blanks. And right now, too many republicans are taking the bait once again.
Full disclosure for those thinking I am a Trump-aholic: In my opinion, Trumps debate performance Thursday was not good. The Donald was given a few slow pitches over home plate that should have been knocked out of the park and he whiffed on them (example coming shortly). Donald Trump was/is not my first choice for the GOP nomination. But if you are a true Constitutional Real American like myself, you want/need him to stay in the race as long as possible.
And BTW, as much as I give him thumbs down on his overall performance, I still think he won the debate hands down on the first pitch. More on that later. I generally gauge public reaction with a close friend of mine. When I called him he wasted no time saying, I think Trump damaged himself in the second half of the debate . The first response when I heard that was hmmm at least you stayed up and watched the whole thing. Then I asked about Ted Cruz. Sounded okay, but didnt hear too much from him
Note: Not pumping Ted Cruz either. In fact, I was very careful to note who the media is/was NOT talking about too much after the debate was over, but thats part of another story. Back to the Donald.
He is leading the GOP because he is leading from the front, not the rear. Say what you want about the other guys, but at least hes fighting back forcing the others to follow his lead. In the case of taking back America, right now, hes the tip of the spear. Remember, hes battling entrenched power on both sides. Hes going to take hits; and as youve seen, much of it based on faux outrage over a made-up scenario. You, the Real American gets angry maybe at Trump, then discouraged, then give up again leading to endless debates that turn into Seinfeld shows (all about nothing), and candidates get picked off one at a time until the only one left is the one with all the money from the entrenched powers. And we fall for it every time. Trump staying in the race will actually force other candidates to deal with the issues that America is talking about. I can assure you that with no Trump on stage, someone would have gotten a Cecil the Loin question, and everyone on stage would have been asked when they stopped being a racist (even Carson).
If you go by todays media standards, Trump was awful and lost the debate, but if you look at it as a chess match, Trump won this first debate on the second move by NOT committing to support the GOP nominee (read 3rd party). Translation: Hes not going away, and in case anyone hasnt noticed: hes driving the political debate to the point that the other side has to respond to him. And it literally made any attempts by the state-sponsored media to take him out in that debate pointless (Cmon, what did you think that whole show as about anyway?). I may I also say: Not going in lock step with the other nine on stage took guts period. It told me that with all due respect to the other nine, with a little bit of political pressure, they may fold like a cheap suit when the time comes. Still, Trump is not good at debates and needs work. For example, that slow pitch I mentioned earlier when one Chris Wallace demanded proof the Mexican government was sending illegals into America. The proof was Marco Rubios earlier statement about home country of many of the illegals For those who need a geography lesson, folks from the countries mentioned by Rubio had to travel THROUGH Mexico to reach the Rio Grande. Mexican could have stopped them at their southern border or at any time while in Mexico. And if they are known criminals in Mexico, why are the Mexicans demanding they be extradited back for justice?
If Donald Trump is sincere, then Real America may have a vehicle to get a message out that would otherwise not be heard. As of now, Trump has been isolated, and if I were him, Id reaching out for help from Real American policy experts (and not policy wonks from inside the beltway) on how to implement issues he (and America) are talking about.
Which is why love him or hate him we still need in in the race.
I want a president that can’t be bought.
I want a president who isn’t afraid to speak his mind.
I’ll vote for trump if he’s the R. Would rather have Cruz. But this country is doomed anyway. What difference does it make.
First order of business...it’s August fully six months before the first vote is cast.
Let Trump be Trump. He is what he is and “all will be revealed” in time because that is his nature.
He is comfortable in the tabloids for good or bad. He’s been there almost daily for nearly 30 years. I think he knows how to play them like a harp from hell. So, to get all wadded up over today’s comment doesn’t take the long view. Again...we are six months from a vote being cast. How can Trump’s campaign implode this soon? It can’t. That is wishful thinking. The mediots think they are running a rigged game of Three Card Monty and Trump is some tourist from Arkansas. They forget that he’s the master of media.
Do I want Trump as president? I don’t know. I’m certainly not going to say “NO” at this point. OTOH, you can say “why not...he can’t do any worse than Obama, which I think my 9 year old could do better than Obama.
The media is in “horserace” and protect Hillary modes.
So we’ll see how Trump plays this out. Kelly is a vacuous whore who’s true colors showed up on Thursday night. We already knew Chris Wallace’s political stripes and Brett Baer is a nitwit nancy-boy like Shep Smith.
Not to worry, Trump will eventually pass the baton to Cruz.
Cruz is the candidate.
Yup.
Thinking what's going on here with the Trump attacks is likely the GOPe making their move in order to get their “Moderate” candidate(s) a push.
Conservatives and Trump now have a common enemy.
The media showed as much fear of Cruz as of Trump. Vote for one of THOSE guys
If we give up on him now, they’ll perceive us as weak and pc. Giving up so early means they can shove Jeb down our throats at a later date. Is Fiorina (unknown to her) a stalking horse for Jeb?
Its Trump and Cruz for the win as far as I’m concerned.I just don’t see the rest having the guts to say what needs to be said.As for his remarks regarding schmegan I will say they were right on.The rinos dumping on Trump will only make him stronger and support for him grow.I hope they keep it up.
Trump is the missile. Cruz is the payload.
I like Trump, but I would change some things in his campaign.
If you’re gonna call opponents names, get a little more classy & sting their true nature. Instead of calling someone a “dummy”, call them a “baby parts salesman”, “greedy corruptocrat”, or “attack kitten”, or a thousand other applicable names that sting deep. Surely Trump has some zinger writers.
Widen his loud message beyond immigration, not to take anything away from it. He needs to raise hell about the Iran deal. He could end that deal if he tried hard enough, for which he would get total credit w/o even being in office. That topic not only terrifies the Rats, but so too the “get along to go along” Pubs. Americans know this is a bad deal by a good margin.
Jobs. Did they even mention it in the debate? Trump should be the jobs candidate. Loudly. Raking his opponents with our poor economy, most of whom are guilty of making it happen or letting it happen.
Lastly, get rid of the pout mouth. It makes him look pouty. The madder he gets, the further his lips poke out. It’s a tell. Get some surgery, or botox, or something.
Yup. Solid rocket Trump will be there for the final thrust taking Cruz into orbit.
Mr. Trump should clean up his mouth, deepen his thought and begin his next few speeches and tweets with” now that I have gotten your intention with wild accusations, insulting name calling and stunts befitting a leftist let’s talk serously about the duplicities of the uniparty, the dangers of corporate welfare , excessive legal and illegal immigration and how to make America great again for the people. I have grown to despise the policies I used to amass more wealth than anyone needs and now I will make amends by giving our country back to the legal hardworking people of America.”
No one but Trump will build the wall!
He's unstable. A warmonger. Crazy. Don't want him near the 'football'.
Blah, blah, blah.
Unsettling how many here don’t know recent history.
Your example shows how critically important that knowledge is.
Reagan had political experience as a two term governor of California. If Trump is your guy, then you get to say so at the ballot box, so have at it, as for me, I will make a different choice. This is what makes America great.
Woo Hoo!
“Trump is the missile. Cruz is the payload.”
I would love for that to be the case, but the cynic in me says the whole election cycle might turn out to be one big dud.
I think it will naturally play out.
