Trump in Chicago: Says he’s ‘100 percent correct’ about Mexicans, blasts U.S. as ‘laughingstock’
The Chicago Sun-Times / The Associated Press ^ | June 29, 2015 | Sandra Guy and Bill Zwecker, AP

Donald Trump brought his in-your-face presidential campaign to Chicago audience on Monday, declaring that if is he is elected, he would make America “rich,” stop illegal immigration and “knock out” federal health-care reform that the U.S. Supreme Court last week ruled the law of the land.

And even as NBC became the latest network to sever its ties to Trump after he characterized Mexican immigrants as rapists and criminals, Trump insisted he had nothing to apologize for, saying his remarks were “100 percent correct.”(continued)

Looks like Gay marriage is not even on radar for registered voters. Trump must be reading these polls and focus on winning issues first. Without winning election, it won’t matter what the GOP nominee thinks about gay marriage.

George Washington University Battleground Poll conducted by the Tarrance Group (R) and Lake Research Partners (D). Dec. 7-11, 2014. N=1,000 registered voters nationwide. Margin of error ± 3.1.

“What do think is the most important issue that Congress should be dealing with next year? Would you say it is jobs, the economy, health care, illegal immigration, or foreign threats?”

The economy 29 %

Illegal immigration 15

Jobs 14

Health care 12

Foreign threats 9

Combination of all others 18

None 2

Unsure/Refused 1

Donald Trump is the Ross Perot of 2016. Very plain-spoken, talking straight to the heart of the spending and debt problems we faced as we muddled through ‘91 and ‘92 with Bush 41 breaking his tax pledge and the economy was recessed. It appears Perot, besides being eccentric, got the willies when he realized people were getting real serious about his campaign. I don’t think he ever wanted to be president and purposely imploded his candidacy.

In Trump’s case, I am not convinced by a long-shot yet that he wants to really be president, either. However, as was Perot, he appeals to our national pride and if he plays it as he think he intends, he will carry a lot of powerful support behind him. I believe Trump is in it to be the kingmaker, and anybody who wants to “buy him out” of the campaign had better be prepared to adopt his strong stance on Mexico, China, and America-first trade policies. These are all critical issues and he hits them all out of the park. For all the showmanship, he is helping and not hurting the GOP race for the nomination.

Liberal politicians have discovered the winning formula...

Make more and more people dependent on government handouts.
Then they are forced to vote for liberal politicians.

Two points:

1. This is FreeRepublic. ECONOMY & JOBS, while important, are not the most important to FReepers, at least not to those identifying as conservatives. Maybe that leaves you out.
Jim has repeated stated that the Social Issues are at the top, probably with others, of his issues list.

2. This is a Poll of ALL Americans, is it not? What we are dealing with right now is a REPUBLICAN Primary.

If Trump wants to win the nomination, and he isn't just playing the part of a spoiler (which I believe he is), he is going to not only address this issue, but lead on it since the base of his party are conservatives and they care about this issue.

Otherwise, he risks looking just like another GOP-E Hack.

Cut the guy a break. He's been busy with more important things like having spats with foreign network executives, making their private telephone numbers public and kicking their employees off his golf course. Priorities, priorities.

Yes, priorities, priorities.

So the Supreme Court has turned the US upside down by ruling Gay Marriage constitutional. Trump STILL has to make money.

Every day Trump takes another unapologetic stand on an issue that resonates with a segment of society.

So when is Trump going to take an unpologetic stand on the Unconstitutional SCOTUS ruling that Gay Marriage is constitutional?

I am not convinced Trump is in it to be the king maker.
He is 69, and has already enjoyed the most luxurious life any person can only dream about. He claims his net worth is $9,000,000,000. Even if it is half of that, 45 generations of Trumps can inherit $10 million each! Does not look to me like at this age he is after more money.

From what I am hearing from his talks, he wants to give something back to the country which gave him so much. I would’nt be surprised if patriotic feelings are stirring inside his head.

I don’t believe that for a minute. The vast majority of Americans want the border secured, and the hardcore criminal aliens deported. What to do with the rest they may disagree about, but when your patient is in critical condition the first thing is to stop the bleeding.

He doesn’t have my support yet, but every time he refuses to apologize for his view, it makes him look better and better. I can respect someone who stands up for what they believe, even if I don’t agree with them. It shows they have a spine.

In order to further desirable conservative social issues, first the candidate MUST WIN elections. The loser does not get to nominate judges and justices. Or push for conservative social issues laws.

Yes, in Gibbon. I’ve been searching in the online Gibbon for “contempt” and even “Roman” (of which there are a lot!), but haven’t found the passage I remember, which was to the effect that the barbarians came to view and use the term “Roman” as a term of contempt.

Little car accidents, the kind that are not publicized, all the time happen with illegals. They don’t care. And then there are the big ones.

My friend’s husband blared his horn on the freeway when a loser (don’t know his immigrant status but can guess - my friends themselves are Hispanic) cut him off. The guy disappeared for a bit behind them, then came back and opened fire. He shot at my friend’s head (she is female). The bullet was embedded in the small strip of metal between the front and rear side windows. They never caught the guy but the plate was stolen and didn’t belong on that car.

You've got it backwards entrophy12.

In order to win elections, you must get nominated first.

Since Trump can't be bothered to man-up and take a position on the unconstitutional Gay Marriage ruling by the SCOTUS (akin to the made up right-to-privacy Abortion ruling) he is unprepared and unfit to be POTUS.

It is relatively easier for Trump to have a spine. He does not need rich sugar daddy’s to approve what to say and what not to say. Very few candidates can last very long in the long primary process based only on grass roots donations. If you do some research, you will discover all candidates have or need an ultra-rich donor behind them.

Yes of course nomination comes first! But is’nt nomination based on primary election WINS? Are you saying majority of republican voters are not concerned about economy and jobs as their top issues during the primary process?

Ever since Ted Cruz came to WashDC I’ve admired him on many diff levels. Then talk came out he was going to run & I became very happy . Here’s a man who has a in-depth grasp on many levels of what the current admin hand has dealt to the US. I cooled on Ted Cruz after the TTP whatever it is called.

But prior to that TPP/TTP whatever Trump started making statements and then announced he was running. I liked what he said and as many he has stated what I believe needs to be done to resurrect the USA from this shambles of a current admin.

Today’s news about the Donald & his statement is right on ,too, about NBC> I really am taken in by his boldness & telling it like it is-i nearly fell off the chair when he mentioned Brian Williams!.

I know this is a lengthy post but please bear with me.

There are many candidates at present & it seems the Donald is surging. I also believe there is another candidate within that large group that will ultimately become the nominee of the Republican Party ( i’m not a repub but consider myself a constitutional conservative).

Unless massive chanage takes place with the Republicans I don’t see Mr. Trump winning the nomination-& if he’s really in for the long haul he’ll be crucified up to the bitter end by msm (which of course is totally unfair). Ted Cruz may undergo the same treatment -because leftist heads have popping & exploding ever since the ball got rolling no matter who the candidate .

I realize there is no perfect candidate but I would like to invoke a larger view w/o having to commit to anything at present. It’s important to recognize Trump for what he says at this time because his words in the larger picture will eventually influence voters over the long run.

In Scripture; the Old Testament tells us “there is a time for everything” I could get all srsly about this but I’ll post a hummorous link to lighten the mood:

http://www.lolcatbible.com/index.php?title=Ecclesiastes_3

Whether Donald Trump becomes the nominee or Ted Cruz I can certainly agree with what he is saying & I don’t believe he’s just saying things to say them. He’s a patriot! Ted Cruz is,too, and he has impeccable academic credentials and he is a type of individual who not only has a superquick grasp on issues but is also well schooled in the law & Constitution-but he is not in Trump’s position right now to have the advantage in stating his beliefs for the future of our country.

This is why I’m sitting on the fence at this time- I’m listening.

On the gay marriage issue, I am 100% certain he will be asked to state his position during debates. Unless he comes out in favor of gay marriage, I am willing to wait until the debates begin, before crossing Trump off my list. In fact, I will cross off any candidate who is OK with gay marriage.

No, just that a large minority of the GOP electorate, the base of the GOP, holds their morality ABOVE their jobs. You see, they are Christians first, Conservatives 2nd, and Republicans last.

And frankly, Trump needs to put his morality above his money and his friends as well.

IF Trump wants to truly be POTUS, and not just act as a spoiler, he will need these voters.

IF, as the Trump supporters are wont to say, Trump is not afraid to take the unpopular stand on an issue, WHY is he shying away from this issue?

Does he really want to win?

If he does, he WILL Engage on this issue.
