The Dutch city of Utrecht is planning on experimenting with socialism to test its value and results.

The Independent reports that the city has teamed up with University College Utrecht to observe “if a system of welfare without requirements will be successful.”

The concept of basic income “is a universal, unconditional form of payment to individuals, which covers their living costs.”

The basic income is supposed to help free up people schedules and work hours to provide more time to volunteer in the community, study at university, and care for others. …

Right . . . nowhere else in the world has this been tried. There certainly is a wave of madness sweeping the globe.

Yes, brilliant idea! Why didn’t someone think of this before?

THE DUTCH ARE ALREADY SOCIALIST. God is leaving the world and letting the unbelievers to their idiocy. The sane ones are just astounded of the levels of stupidity that exist when God lets it occur.

It’s an experiment which will last four years at best and then fold up. The problem here is that you might end up with a dozen university professors who determine that they only need to work six hours a week to collect a pay-check, and then spend twenty hours a week in some volunteer status.

The other issue I see is that suddenly....you might have triple the number of volunteers for something, and nothing much left for any of them to do or achieve.

ROTFLMAO!
Sure they will, sure they will....

I predict the end to this very expensive, doomed-to-fail experiment inside of two years. I’d say one, but liberals LOVE to be generous with other people’s money!

Except that it has to be paid for by someone who is committing work hours to the cause, who now has less time to volunteer in the community, or study at the university, or care for others.

Will it be self-funding? Or do they expect massive losses? Where will the money come from if nobody works?

Reminds me of when I worked a summer job as a go-fer at a local parts store. One of regular customers was the local go-to guy when it came to German cars. We nicknamed him Sputnik, because years earlier he, his wife and then newborn son escaped from E Berlin just before the Berlin wall went up. If socialism is such a wonderful utopia, why was that damn wall built it the first place? To keep the Mexicans out?

The Dutch have been great capitalists. Historic, actually. Now, they attempt the fools errand. Bad news. The EU will suckle, like the frail child on a dry teat.

Not sure why everyone on this thread is poo-poo’ing.

I mean, it’s not like the U.S. has been a Free Market country in ages. Do we NOT have our own Socialism called Crony Capitalism? Do we not have S.S./Medicare (and don’t give me the bullshit “I *paid* into it”) as well as welfare?

Yes, it will be an abject failure, but we don’t need to see across any border to verify that.
