But, but, there is a “consensus” that electric cars are better, right?

It’s not about whether it’s better, it’s how it makes you feel.

Even the Pope is thinking this way.

Ping to the “prophets of ohm” who pushed and propagandized for EV’s.
They, or their retread personas, can come and weep.

Just be aware that the National Bureau of Economic Research is a private organization. The name implies it is part of the federal government.

They will not believe.

Math, science, and logic are not their friends.

After all, they are liberals.

We STEM types call our F students future liberal politicians.

Funny they don’t publish the assumptions made or the particulars of this study.

I am willing to bet they are full of shit.

One thing is certain as electric cars get older they get cleaner because the grid gets cleaner.

As a gasoline powered car gets older, the engine loses compression, and it gets dirtier.

My Tesla is made of aluminum. Won’t rust.

No vibrating ICE to shake the unibody into a wobbly POS.

And electric cars can be powered by any American electric source. Wind,Nuclear,Hydro, Solar, and Natural Gas.

Gasoline powered cars need petroleum. Leaving their drivers and America as whole subject to the whims of the global oil markets and dictators in the Kremlin and Saudi Arabia.

Batteries can and will be recycled and repurposed.

Used auto grade batteries are basically high grade ore.

You can’t recycle gasoline or diesel.

Today in Tennessee we learned of a push for a new gas tax to pay for road maintenance.

We ave well maintained roads but the current revenue stream is becoming inadequate to keep up.We don’t have the problem of misappropriation of highway funds for light rail etc.
Gas tax revenues as compared to miles driven have been significantly reduced

Increased mpg values and electric and hybrid electric cars and natural gas fueled vehicles don’t pay their fair share.

As an engineer with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, I knew that from day 1. Because electric power plants are long distance away from the cities where electric cars are in use. There are large power losses in transmission of electrical power from the power plant to the user’s home. Whereas in a modern gasoline powered engine, the power generated is right where it is being used. And the gas consumption rate is instantaneously and constantly adjusted to exact needs at the moment. The remote electric power plant can never be fine tuned to the exact needs of electric cars at every moment. So the power plant keeps burning fuel even if demand has dropped.

And ethanol is not the sure fire environmental winner it was sold to be. Pretty marginal benefits if any, so far.

Noting that its been years since I’ve dealt with energy cycles as a student, operating an electric car is much cleaner than using an internal combustion engine vehicle imo.

The actual problem with electric vehicles where the environment is concerned is the physics of recharging the battery. Because all batteries have internal resistance, charging an electric vehicle’s battery overnight is like running a roughly 1400 watt heater overnight.

So if you’re local power is generated by burning coal, that 1400 watts comes from burned coal.

On the other hand, if you are in the northwest where I understand that electricity is generated mostly hydroelectrically, then electric vehicles may not be such a bad idea.

In fact, since sunlight causes ocean water to form rain clouds, some of the rain winding up in dams equipped with hydroelectric generators, I suppose that it can be argued that electric vehicles used in the rainy areas of the northwest are solar-powered vehicles.

Corrections welcome. As I mentioned, it’s been awhile since I’ve looked at energy cycles.

Why are we ceding electric automobiles to the radical Left?

This should be a conservative cause. Of course electric cars will at first be less efficient than gas powered. We’ve had over a century now to improve and make the internal combustion engine cleaner and more efficient.

Electric or battery powered cars are still in their infancy and the technology will improve quickly.

Conservatives should be all over this.
