Never heard that. Don’t know how I missed it. I do know that the South held him in extremely low esteem. They called him an “ape” and a “baboon”. They were appalled and embarrassed to have him as their president. Politics hasn’t changed much. Anyway, States Rights were paramount. For example, Lee, who lived within site of the Capitol, went with his State when Virginia succeeded. He didn’t stop to consider politics or motives or reasons for the War,........... Lee went with his State, and that was that.
