The man himself lays out his complete understanding and judgement of the Conflict right there in his two Innaugural Adresses. And also in a quaint little piece he wrote in Nov '63. It ends like this, "that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
