CHARLESTON, W.Va. Appalachian coal mining suffered a double blow on Friday, as Murray Energy announced plans to lay off more than 1,800 miners, most from West Virginia, and Alpha Natural Resources told 439 more Mountain State miners they could be out of work.
The announcements continue a grim employment trend for the Appalachian coalfields.
On Friday, St. Clairsville, Ohio-based Murray Energy said it told 1,417 workers at five West Virginia mines that their jobs must be eliminated....

Keep jabbing that pointed stick in everyones’ eyes.
Just keep jabbing.
If someone wants to build a new coal-fired power plant they can, but it will bankrupt them,..... Blech Obama
.....and they still voted him into office
Joe Manchin must be proud to be a dimocrat.
This news is being heavily played in western PA media. The Democratic voters here keep voting in the Dem candidates who hurt the energy industries.
I don’t know how ohio and Pennsylvania could go for this character or Hillary. I know Pennsylvania has Philadelphia with all its urban votes. I don’t know about Ohio
In a perfect world, we would have energy without negative consequences. Imam Obama seeks to create that perfect world. He also thinks global warming is our greatest threat. So there you are.

How’s that Hope and Change working out for you Appalachia Democrats??
At current usage we have over 500 years of known reserves of coal. It is this county’s most plentiful energy reserve. That is the real reason why the America hating lefties have gone after coal using the climate which has not warmed in nearly 20 years as the excuse.
Anyone who really believes that what they exhale is a pollutant has an obligation to humanity and to our environment to just quit exhaling. That would solve a lot of the world’s problems.
Here in Ohio we have the 3 Cs - Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati. The majority of the counties are red, but the heaviest population is centered in these 3 counties - thus, the DEMS carried this state in 2008 and 2012 - in the presidential race that is. We are a schizophrenic state - we elect Republican governors and legislatures, bu, Demoncrats for President. I don’t get it. I just don’t. However, GWB carried this state in both his elections. There must be some fraud going on??? Kasich won the governorship again in 2014 by beating the DEM candidate something like 67%-37%. So, hopefully, we will swing red again in 2016.
I’ve long advocated that we need to change how the electoral votes are allocated. McCain won 67 of our 88 counties in 2008, and still lost Ohio. Maybe we should give the electoral votes to whoever carries the majority of counties in any given state. The urban cities kill us in the general elections.
“I dont know about Ohio.”
Think Cleveland, Columbus, Toledo....
It’s the same thing with Illinois. If you excise Chicago and Cook County, Illinois is a red state.
There must be some fraud going on???
Sure there was fraud...even reported. But no one was ever indicted. If I recall correctly, in the 2004 and 2008 elections, some Cleveland precincts had over 104%, 113% voting results of the registered voters. Same reports also in the Philadelphia areas. I would surmise that a vast majority of 'blue cities' also had this exact experience.
The Republicans know of these voting scandals throughout the years, yet do nothing. They cannot adequately defend the need for voter registration, just simply kowtow to any Democrat bleating about racism, about disenfranchisement.
The majority of the RINOs are cowards. They want to be liked, and so they go along to get along. The ironic twist is that the base then despises their sorry butts.
Keep voting Joe Manchin West Virginia
Wonder how many of these now unemployed union miner’s voted for Obama...
Well, they got their wish...
The best coal in the world and we’ll leave it in the ground.
PING!
