Droits Humains launches petition calling for ‘human rights for everyone’, but critics say capitalised ‘Homme’ means mankind

A group of French feminists are saying non to the declaration of the rights of man, which they say is sexist and an outdated example of the French exception culturelle.

The Droits Humains collective is calling on France to stop leaving women out of the idea of universal liberties.

The declaration of the rights of man and of the citizen was approved by the national assembly in 1789 at the time of the French revolution.

The collective wants the French government to immediately abandon the term “Droits de l’Homme” and has launched a petition calling for “human rights for everyone”.

Given the uses of the romance and other languages, what the feminists are demanding in France and the English speaking countries is the establishment of the principle that women are not human: they are some other species altogether.

Just waiting for the other shoe to drop . Jefferson wrote that all men are created equal. Just waiting for feminists to bitch about that and that we should change the words he actually wrote.

Don’t laugh at this. Already we see people talk of “the Framers” of the Constitution rather than “Founding Fathers” even though all of then were men. There is a reluctance on the part of liberals to say Founding Fathers even though all were men.

The feminists have too much spare time if they are worried about such a trivial matter. Maybe if they focused instead on how women are treated as chattel in the Mid East they would find more meaningful work.

This surprises me coming from a people that speak a latin-based language where masculine and feminine terms are part of the language. It’s not a male/female thing. As french speakers, they should understand that. Unless of course their first language is English?

There ought to be a petition of outrage against these Feminists who are nothing but rioters seeking to destroy everything traditional including the language. MANKIND is inferred in all these documents. They only stir trouble to gain membership and MONEY! I despise them!

Hey, if you can’t do something useful you might as well do something pointless.

I suppose the next move is for so-called feminists in this country to demand that we change the wording in the Declaration of Independence...

My left-handed French-Canadian mother-in-law should be doubly offended.

“Droits de l’Homme” indeed.

"Already we see people talk of “the Framers” of the Constitution rather than “Founding Fathers” even though all of then were men"

While I agree with your sentiment, the Founders and Framers were two different groups of men.
