"Regarding your recent editorial, 'How to end the killing,' your last paragraph made me want to vomit. 'No doubt, Baltimore needs effective police and prosecutors, ample drug treatment, better schools, and more economic opportunities.'
"I have taught in the Baltimore public school system for the past two decades. What we need is better students. We have many excellent teachers. I cannot count the number of students who have physically destroyed property in the schools."
"They have trashed brand new computers, destroyed exit signs, set multiple fires, destroyed many, many lockers, stolen teachers' school supplies, written their filth on the tops of classroom desks, defecated in the bathrooms and stairwells, assaulted teachers (beyond constantly telling them to perform certain impossible acts upon themselves) and refused to do any homework or class work."
"How dare you accuse, through implication or otherwise, that the need for 'better schools' is a reason there is so much killing. Had you defined the loosely used term, 'better schools,' perhaps I and probably others may not have been so nauseated.
"Need I go any further? I won't even bother addressing the other 'causes' you listed. Too inane. In summary, the problem seems to be a total disregard for life that exists not only in our crime-ridden city, but also in all of the major cities throughout the United States.

I don’t care where you’re from, that’s funny right there.
a societal change is desperately needed - how can the traditional family be re-established? how can black men take responsibility for their children and raise them?? Raising kids in families is the only way to bring about change - no other way. And it may be urban society has deteriorated too far.
government can’t do it - government has played a major role in creating the problem, IMO
They are using the packages of Baltimore Sun—— err, uhh, I mean toilet paper——as kindling to get arson fires going.
Just don't call them thugs, they are ‘misunderstood youth’
Nothing another costly government program can't fix
Its your white privilege that causes this, so accept the guilt
Repent meaning pay more $$$$ taxes
Some future president may need to resort to the old fashioned method of paying people to #1. Have Children #2. Care for them, #3. Marry or Partner Up with someone else for X number of years (until the baby of family is at least 16 years old). Throw in a New Volt for the parents, bought and paid for, when your youngest child graduates high school, and you may have a deal. Or a down payment on a Condo of your choice.
sounds good, be the first to start it up....like one teacher said, we need better students. Can’t teach the unteachable and those that want to learn I feel sorry for, they are stuck.
I doubt this. What we have are teachers indoctrinated by years of irrelevant deeply left-wing Ed studies. A normal person has little hope of surviving that to become a teacher, however talented he/she may be. He/she would quit in disgust. The Ed programs are designed to filter out sensible people who have their heads screwed on properly.
So I do think we need better teachers, along with better students.
The new normal according to PBS star Tavis Smiley........
Voting age is 21.
Married? Your vote counts more.
Children? Your vote counts even more.
I would go so far as to advocate that unmarried people should not have the right to vote at all.
Spot on. Was it Lord Bullwer-Lytton or Alexis de Tocqueville who said that a democracy terminates itself when the people vote to plunder the public treasury and award themselves money they didn’t earn.
Can someone explain how the women’s vote helped this country for the better? Mark Twain, who knew a thing or two, opposed woman’s suffrage for quite a while. In addition, allowing the vote under 25 is not a good idea. Physically, the human brain physically doesn’t develop maturity of judgment until after age 25. Universal suffrage is a failure.
ed. Physiologically, the human brain doesnt develop maturity of judgment until after age 25.
Yes, good point. I think unmarried and childless people have a fundamentally different outlook on life. They may not be aware of it, but it becomes obvious to me as I get older. I think it's not in the best interest of married families to have single people guiding the destiny of society. And there is no destiny of society without married families anyway.
Still more sbpdl.
When they decided to kick God and the BIble out of the schools, this is the result. He left, and destruction arrived.
I agree. At minimum, a citizen should have some skin in the game in order to qualify to vote. Now is the tipping point. The dependent class exceeds the productive class in numbers. And Obama is delivering ever more dependents to aggravate the problem intentionally. Last year, Ron Paul said our political system cannot fix itself, and the economy will have to collapse before there is the political will for systemic change.
That's actually a GREAT idea ...as I recall this has worked before.
EXCELLENT!!!! I laugh when blacks on tv tell us what WE need to do to fix their problem. Still the victims, still everyone else’s responsibility, not theirs.
