Berkeley students protesting the “hostile atmosphere” against minority students blocked passage for minority students last Tuesday, at times resorting to violence in order to prevent them from attending class.
Gathering at Sather Gate, Stop Mass Incarceration Network, who started the rally, prevented passage of students. The protests were aimed at “police brutality” and the environment on campus toward minority students.
Up to 50 students gathered and prevented foot traffic through the gate. On multiple occasions, students, including minorities, tried to break through so they could attend class. In response, the protesters violently attacked them. Three assaults were reported during the protest.
The University of California Police Department (UCPD) at Berkeley did not take action against the protesters, despite the fact that they acknowledged that protesters were breaking the rules and potentially committed crimes.

That first sentence explains the logic of liberals perfectly.
My nephew is at Berkley now studying engineering on a scholarship, busted his @ss in J.C. and all A’s, why he chose Berkley’s offer I don’t know! Second family member to go there, first was a niece studying economics, devout Catholic, never understood.
Somehow this has to make sense in the liberal mind...
but I can’t twist my brain to the point that it makes sense to me.
Just as, somehow, it’s not hypocrisy to ignore a Muslim baker that refuses to cater a gay “wedding”.

That said,without rules society would break down. and we seem to be well on our way.
Is this a surprise? Leftists have a history of violence. Stalin killed millions in his attempt to create income equality.

That is very strange because the last thing he is going to learn is engineering while learning everything about radical leftism. Maybe he is trying to confront them? Good luck with that.
Not all of us who went to Berkeley are crazy lefties. Believe it or not, Berkeley also has a large Christian community. Many more Christians there than were in my previous “traditional, conservative” undergraduate college.
Berkeley has changed a lot in the last few years, especially since passing the proposition that removed using racial quotas for admission. So now admission is mostly on merit.
Now the student body is probably majority Asian, who tend to be over-achievers compared to other ethnic groups. Most of those kids are pretty traditional and are concerned about getting a good education and job. Most have families that will beat the tar out of them if they get involved in radicalism or waste their time on leftist causes. They are paying for their kids to get a useful degree, and that is what they are doing.
My nephew got an excellent education at Berkeley in electronic engineering. There are other departments which offer high quality educations as well. They are largely in the sciences and engineering. As everyone can see, the liberal arts there are an awful mess.
I should also say you don’t find the wackos in engineering, mathematics or the hard sciences; kids in those areas are generally super smart and high achievers. And these departments are also super competitive, so you don’t find slackers there because they will flunk out.
You find the lefties in the liberal arts and the various “studies” programs, which are essentially incubators for leftist thought on all campuses.
