His decision to run for president should come as no surprise. Cruz was never interested in being a serious U.S. Senator. He had no desire to develop strong relationships with Senate colleagues, and diligently work to turn conflict into consensus, all with an eye towards getting things done as a lawmaker.

Except Obamacare funding was exempt from shutdowns so it remained funded the entire two week shutdown. Its funding didn't depend on a new budget being passed.

In fact a number of posts here explicitly warned about this.

So it was clearly untrue, shutting down the government would not defund Obamacare.

However, knowing that he is writing for the HuffPost, and arguing that Ted is not a serious contender, makes me more optimistic than ever about Ted’s chances of both beating the Bush/Rove/Chamber of Corruption establishment but also to put a beating on the Dims.
