WV: Tomblin Vetos Constitutional Carry
Gun Watch ^ | 21 March, 2015 | Dean Weingarten

You have to give West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin credit for Machiavellian use of power.  He cleverly waited until the legislature adjourned, sin die, before vetoing the popular constitutional carry bill.  The bill SB 347, would have removed some of the restrictions on carrying concealed weapons by those who can legally own them.  It passed with overwhelming margins and bipartisan support in both the Senate (32-2) and the House (71-29).  For a non budget bill, such as SB 347, simple majorities would have been enough to override a veto.

Which is why the Governor waited until the legislature adjourned.  With the legislature adjourned, overriding a veto becomes much, much harder.   Perhaps some in the legislature will try to convene a special session.   It seems unlikely, with most of the disarmist media calling for the veto.  Second amendment supporters say that they will continue to push for constitutional carry.

It would seem like those West Virginia hillbillies would have more sense than to elect a maggot like this clown. I guess not.

All they need is a one day special session to override it.

Then the state’s legislative body needs to amend the state’s constitution so the governor can only sign or veto legislation when the state’s legislature is in session.

“All they need is a one day special session to override it.”

True. But they need 60% of the reps to call for a special session. I do not think they have the guts to do it.

“Democrat. Figures.”

They all (Ds and Rs) knew this was going to happen. You don’t get into politics without knowing every move of the opponent. The Republicans and Democrats wanted this to go this way so they can hold fundraisers to prevent the other side from winning. This is a win-win for the political parties.

To fatten their personal pocketbooks, no doubt. NYC's Anthony Weiner ran for mayor just so he could pay himself out of his leftover campaign war chest.

That is the way it looks to me. If they would have passed it five days earlier, they could have overridden the veto. Passing it at the time they did set up Tomblin’s veto.

If it has “overwhelming support” in both houses... Override his damn veto and shove it up his ass.

WV elected this douche after Slow Joe Manchin took the state to the cleaners as His Arrogance’s butt boy for coal and CommieCare. Give them 5 or 6 more tries before they stumble onto the cause and effect of fence post stupid voting.

You are correct. Spelling and latin are not my strong points. However, I take correction well.

Thank you for the correction.
