I use Safari on my Mac, and it allows you the option of choosing which browser to use for searching on the web. I read some good things about “DuckDuckGo”, and have been using that. They say they do not track you.

You can take a “tour” at their website;
https://duckduckgo.com

I am always interested in the opinions of others, however.

On my Mac I use Firefox as it is the quickest for my purposes. I go to Safari now and then and it works fine. It seems to be getting better.

I hate this so called net nuetrality thing. I think it is like calling Obama care the affordable care act. It is not about care and not affordable. I think net nuetrality is probably like that, not at all nuetral, but is there to spread liberal BS. I just wonder if another administration can reverse this lunacy, or if they even have the stones to reverse it?

Use Opera with Bing as the default search engine. Use Ghostery and other add-ins to limit scripts.

Oh, and DuckDuckGo as search engine. Sometimes I still go to Google, but less and less do I find it useful.

I thought we were informed just yesterday or Friday, that due to a security problem, Firefox was the only browser that was currently safe to use?????

Use Opera with Bing as the default search engine.

I am very wary of Bing since it's from Microsoft, a far left outfit that pushes a diversity agenda (notably acceptance of deviants) and was co-founded by the ultra-liberal Bill Gates and Paul Allen. My experience with Duck-Duck-Go has been positive and I don't believe it's tainted by the fetid stench of leftism.

That said, since Free Republic alone is the authoritative source for news and informed opinion, the search feature here works as good as any and better than most. The choices of looking for phrases by keyword or title puts the other engines to shame. Frankly, if it's not on Free Republic, then it didn't happen, in my opinion.

I’ve used Pale Moon for quite a while, it’s compatible with the few add-ons I have from FF: Adblock, https everywhere, and the general java/shockwave/etc extensions.

It strips out most of the bloat that FireFox has added in, and runs much smoother. I usually have 20ish tabs left open, then add another 15-20 when browsing through Drudge/FR.

The only big issue I’ve had with Pale Moon is the stupid Army CAC card for SSD classes, it’s only officially supported on IE 9 on Win7 (or IE8) and it was a fight to get it working between PaleMoon, FF, and IE.

Recently I’ve had issues with some menu stuff/in-game stores in KingdomofLoathing, the site’s right-click interface is being over-written by the generic browser right-click menu, and not letting me click on some buttons.

Otherwise, PM is great and I’ve definitely liked it better than FireFox or the all-seeing eye of Chrome.

I also use Pale Moon for the same reason. The only issue I have is it won’t open pdfs without downloading.

I use FireFox, to read FreeRepublic, because it lets me choose the display fonts. I need a heavy font to help me with my impaired vision. I use Safari for most other browsing, would still use it if they allowed me to change the fonts.

ps I use Casual Bold 28 point for FreeRepublic, rest of family hates it but I can actually read it comfortably, on the big screen TV I use for a monitor.

> Just pinging a couple Freepers whose names I recall ...

Thank you, I am honored to be listed in such company.

I work and play on a wide variety of machines every day, about 30% Windows, 30% Linux, 30% Mac, and the remaining 10% split among FreeBSD, SunOS/Solaris, etc.

** For me, the single most important characteristic for a browser is solid cross-platform synchronized support on Win/Lin/Mac.

** The second most important characteristic is technical accuracy and a wide variety of available tools, extensions, add-ons. I use them.

** I ignore ideology. If I chose my browser based on ideological purity of the company or its parents, I'd be outta luck, so I hold my nose and ignore politics and social position.

As an aside, if I chose my operating system based on ideology, I'd have to drop Linux (given that pair of socialists, Torvalds and Stallman), and of course Apple and Microsoft because of their social/political impurities, so what the hell is left? Nah, can't do that.

So, bottom line.... I mainly use Firefox. Chrome pisses me off so much I can't use it effectively. Internet Explorer pisses me off a lot more than Chrome, and it's out anyway because it's Windows-only.

So I guess if you're going to stay away from FF because of their social stance, I can't help you much with a recommendation I've tried. Sorry about that.

Fortunately I see that a number of other FReepers have suggestions. Best of luck with them, and thanks for asking!

FRegards, Dayglored

Here is Safari in 28pt Casual. Type "⌘,". Then open the appearance tab and select your font.

Firefox, followed by Pale Moon and Waterfox are by far the best browsers for power users due to the vast extensions, many of which others do not have. Google Chrome or IE cannot even do multiple tab rows or save sessions! (I have about 200 tabs open now on two FF programs)

Likely you have other issues. Try a new profile Make a shortcut on your desktop to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -no-remote -p if you have a 64 bit OS, or "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -no-remote -p if not.

I try. I choose AMD (6350) for a new PC (thank God) 16 months ago partly because Intel dropped the Scouts.

But Firefox is more Christian in operation in the sense of a vast community of developers. And what would Windows be without 3rd party apps?
