VANITY: Move to Seattle? Any young Conservatives in the city or state?

My daughter is graduating this summer--she has a dear friend who lives in Seattle and has suggested my daughter might move out there. Daughter could move anywhere she can find job in her field.

My daughter is a conservative tho not a political junkie like her mom LOL. Her friend is probably a moderate, but not particularly political. I have a "moderate" republican friend who said Seattle is just growing by leaps and bounds and lots of young people are moving there.

Though I have no direct say in the matter as daughter is an adult and I have not been in Seattle except for the airport, I am not sure how I feel about the city Seattle or state Washington? From what I have read, most conservative liberty-lovers have left...but I have no first-hand information.

I would appreciate input in the event that my daughter asks for my opinion--eh she usually does.

Anyone have any thoughts on Seattle (preferably first-hand) to share?

I appreciate it. Thanks!

It didn’t affect me that way in Portland. I didn’t have to “work at it” or “fight it” ... I was just me ... :-) ...

I suspect if her “position” is not “really her own” ... then maybe. That’s why I said if she’s confirmed and settled in what she knows, she won’t have any problem at all.

he state most definitely has a majority liberal population than conservative, but one can find conservatives in any city or state. They will just be ruled by liberals when it comes to government. Beautiful state, populated with lots of youth, as there are numerous outdoor activities that may be engaged in. From the mountains to Puget Sound, to bars catering to the youthful population

Thanks for the more optimistic view LOL...There probably are some conservatives.

I saw Washington from the sky, and it is beautiful—sort of like British Columbia or the Alaska area near Ketchikan. Yes, daughter loves outdoor activities—she went to school in the UP, Michigan...lots of trees, mountains, water....and she has a very nice, sweet cousin ( tho very liberal) not too far away.

Noted your comments about youthful population...I am thinking daughter wants to move somewhere where there are young people—she is on an iternship now—feeling very isolated.

Let’s all move there! Washington State is beautiful. The best vacation I ever took was in the San Juan Islands.

The Seattle area has grown so much of the past three decades that housing costs are outrageous. I just had a co-worker tell me that a single BR apartment rents for between $1500 and $1800 a month. Buying a house isn’t much better.

Yes, my moderate friend was talking about this—she knows someone who’s daughter moved there...parents had to go there to help her get an apartment, and my daughter’s friend had hard time upgrading. My son has noted same thing in San Jose. I read an article yesterday about the fact that apartment rates have gone up substantially—as I seem to recall it is because people can’t afford homes....

Beautiful state but something in the water up there! ha
I have some friends that live in Tacoma and Gig Harbor..maybe further from the city? but the commute not fun.

Daughter could live in any decent-sized town if a job was available.

Seattle is a Poster Child for what the enlightened among us call the “Left Coast”.

Not surprised by this :(

What passes for and is called ‘conservative’ in Seattle, would pretty much be considered ‘liberal’ on the other side of the state. Calling Seattle ‘San Francisco’s twin’ isn’t far from the truth.

The massive eruption of the neighboring volcano probably would not kill thousands while your daughter is living there, but it will some day.

Never lived there, but I have spent quite a bit of time throughout the Pacific NW.

I used to drive up to the San Juan Islands every other weekend, from Portland, so I got to see a lot of it. I was always running close (in time) to catch the ferry. Sometimes, they would see me driving across the big parking lot and hold the ferry long enough for me to drive on. I remember one time, they just started pulling away, then saw me and stopped. Fortunately they had not really “ pulled away”, but just revved up the engines. They held long enough for me to drive on, and as soon as my back wheels were on ... they were ALREADY pulling away from the dock! All I can say is that was a “smooth move” in how they did that! ... :-) ...

My childhood friend, best buddy and all that, never had a political viewpoint moved out there about five years ago. Now he’s flaming lib and won’t talk to me anymore. I’d advise against the move.

I’m moving back there in a few months after 4 years in NJ. It’s a fantastic city and a very pretty area.

How Eastern WA Sees Seattle vs How Seattle Sees Eastern WA

The difference between the two is that the Eastern WA view of Seattle is accurate.

I was stationed at Ft. Lewis, about fifteen miles removed from Seattle, fifty or so years ago - the city was just beginning to go squishy left about that time, but was still a great place to hang out on weekends - beautiful city of seven hills with lots of attractions like of course the Space Needle, waterfront market, good symphony etc etc depending on your tastes - your daughter might want to look to actually live a bit south of the city, maybe near a place like Tacoma, where she’d have more contact with military types from what’s now Joint Base Lewis-McChord, who are likely to be on the conservative side.....

My son is stationed in Tacoma Washington very close to Seattle. He can’t stand the weather or the women there. Since it is an army base town they know everything about how much each rank is paid and when they are paid. He described them as it bunch of hippies that want peace, love and all of YOUR money.
