VANITY: Move to Seattle? Any young Conservatives in the city or state?

My daughter is graduating this summer--she has a dear friend who lives in Seattle and has suggested my daughter might move out there. Daughter could move anywhere she can find job in her field.

My daughter is a conservative tho not a political junkie like her mom LOL. Her friend is probably a moderate, but not particularly political. I have a "moderate" republican friend who said Seattle is just growing by leaps and bounds and lots of young people are moving there.

Though I have no direct say in the matter as daughter is an adult and I have not been in Seattle except for the airport, I am not sure how I feel about the city Seattle or state Washington? From what I have read, most conservative liberty-lovers have left...but I have no first-hand information.

I would appreciate input in the event that my daughter asks for my opinion--eh she usually does.

Anyone have any thoughts on Seattle (preferably first-hand) to share?

I appreciate it. Thanks!

Sounds like Seattle could use an injection of conservatives. I would never reject a place based only on politics. I never understood why so many conservatives run away.

LOL there is an idea—we surge Seattle with conservatives :)

What passes for and is called ‘conservative’ in Seattle, would pretty much be considered ‘liberal’ on the other side of the state. Calling Seattle ‘San Francisco’s twin’ isn’t far from the truth.

Doesn’t surprise me....for the most part, a lot of conservatives in IL these days are what I used to think of as moderates.

he massive eruption of the neighboring volcano probably would not kill thousands while your daughter is living there, but it will some day.

Scientifically, you are probably correct :(

Never lived there, but I have spent quite a bit of time throughout the Pacific NW.

Tho I have not stayed in Seattle, I have flown over it... It is beautiful country—I have been up north of Seattle and I have been up to the California/Oregon border—outside of AK, some of the most amazing scenery!

My childhood friend, best buddy and all that, never had a political viewpoint moved out there about five years ago. Now he’s flaming lib and won’t talk to me anymore. I’d advise against the move

Sad story. So sorry about loss of your friend.

So from what I am reading on this thread from you and others, seems that it may boil down to how politically aware and confirmed in her beliefs my daughter is as to whether she will retain them.

I’m moving back there in a few months after 4 years in NJ. It’s a fantastic city and a very pretty area.

Encouraging...

I was stationed at Ft. Lewis, about fifteen miles removed from Seattle, fifty or so years ago - the city was just beginning to go squishy left about that time, but was still a great place to hang out on weekends - beautiful city of seven hills with lots of attractions like of course the Space Needle, waterfront market, good symphony etc etc depending on your tastes - your daughter might want to look to actually live a bit south of the city, maybe near a place like Tacoma, where she’d have more contact with military types from what’s now Joint Base Lewis-McChord, who are likely to be on the conservative side.....

Well as I mentioned in an earlier post, her friend’s fiance is military, so I am guessing she would be located down there near to the base. Thank you!

We do have a few enclaves where Conservatives live ... when is she coming?

“Enclaves” - like the term.
She is graduating in June, heading out there to stand up in her friend’s wedding in August and is hoping to come out a few days before wedding to look around, get a feel for the place etc. If she likes what she sees, learns, and finds some decent job opportunities, I am guessing she would be out in the fall. I think she is very employable.

Lot’s of nice towns on the outskirts of Seattle and easy commutes to downtown - although the fwy’s are a mess morning and evenings.

Finding good church is a good idea wherever she ends up :)

Very true. The church in Federal Way has been a real blessing to my family.

My son is stationed in Tacoma Washington very close to Seattle. He can’t stand the weather or the women there. Since it is an army base town they know everything about how much each rank is paid and when they are paid. He described them as it bunch of hippies that want peace, love and all of YOUR money.

Sorry about your son’s experiences with women. I can commiserate... Though my son is not in the military, he feels the same way about the many of the native Left Coast women...

Thanks for the condolences. Maybe my friend will come around to his senses... maybe not. Yes, it does come down to how firm your daughters convictions are, a good level head and critical thinking skills because the siren song of liberalism is a strong and seductive one. It encourages everything angry , peaceful, and base under the guise of ‘’social justice’’ ‘’fighting oppression’’ and ‘’the common good’’. Tell also, because another friend I have lived out there some years back and found out the hard way that if you display the fact that you’re a conservative, you can catch hell for it. She but a “Bush/Chenny’’ sticker on her car and had her tires slashed.

s Texas transplant to WA, I recommend your daughter look into the employment situation in the TriCities (Richland, Kennewick, and Pasco), and then visit Seattle periodically (Portland, too). The weather is far better on what is called the East side, traffic is so much lighter, cost of living is lower, our politics (in the TriCities) is much more Conservative, and, if interested, she will have a better chance of meeting men who are really men.

Good luck to her wherever she alights.

Thanks—lot’s of good information!

I work in downtown Seattle but live 30 miles to the south. I personnaly don’t know any liberals. There are good and bad areas so make sure she does her homework before renting. The lack of sunshine and abundance of drizzaly days are depressing. I stay because I make twice the money that I could anywhere else.

Thanks—good information. Yes, she is in a Capitol city now, more urban than anywhere she has lived, and it was tedious finding a decent and SAFE rental.

Nice to hear salaries can be good :)

She should go live there. We need young conservatives to live in the belly of the beast; and see how they do things up close.

LOL I have one kid living in California already. Isn’t that enough? But in all seriousness you are right...there nothing like first-hand viewing.
