The number 1 song of the 80’s is “Beat It”. Hands down, bar none, nothing else even close.

Wow. I Don’t like MJ his pedophilia or his bubblegum pop. Treacle.

Great song. I actually had to pick against it in this match-up.

I am really distraught that none of the real icons of the era - MJ (3 songs and 1 duet), Madonna or Prince made it past the first round of 32 pairs. Can’t believe of all the MJ songs only Rock with You made it to the 16.

I’m trying to not make too much commentary on this. ;-) But since I have been through this kind of thing before, and seen many a discussion including music-centric boards, results don’t really surprise me!

I don't know about Prince, but for the first two I'd suggest that a lot of folks here on a conservative website have no interest in music that is produced by skanks and child molesters.

Good music.

As for the moral comments, there aren’t too many in that “profession” who are at all paragons of virtue, either in their lives or their lyrics or sounds. I have always felt that way automatically about heavy-metal types as well as later, rap types.

Here you go.

+++++++ marks the choice

The choices are interesting in that there are a lot of lesser of two evil votes. I vote for songs I don’t like that much because the matched-up song is worse.

6 1980 “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” Queen +++++++
2 1980 “Another Brick in the Wall, Part II” Pink Floyd

6 1981 “Celebration” Kool & the Gang +++++++
2 1982 “Eye of the Tiger” Survivor

5 1982 “Centerfold” The J. Geils Band
4 1983 “Down Under” Men at Work +++++++

6 1984 “Jump” Van Halen
4 1984 “Footloose” Kenny Loggins +++++++

7 1985 “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” Tears for Fears +++++++
6 1985 “Out of Touch” Daryl Hall & John Oates

4 1986 “On My Own” Patti LaBelle & Michael McDonald +++++++
7 1987 “Here I Go Again” Whitesnake

5 1987 “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” Starship
2 1988 “Need You Tonight” INXS +++++++

4 1988 “Never Gonna Give You Up” Rick Astley +++++++
3 1989 “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” Poison
