Enough With the Gruesome Abortion Articles
Vanity | February 9, 2015 | Self

Posted on 02/09/2015 1:20:15 AM PST by PittsburghAfterDark

I know this thread and topic is going to go over like a lead balloon but I have to say it. The constant, prevalent and gruesome pro-life themed articles are really becoming a nuisance to this long time reader and occasional poster.

This is not a call for a pro-choice viewpoint, I'm not advocating that personally and realize that will, thankfully, never happen here. However there becomes a point when preaching to the choir about the horrors of abortion in heinous detail either visually or in writing just becomes disgusting.

I frequent this site overnight and scanning from top to bottom I run into articles from Liveactionnews.org (Two back to back articles tonight.) Clinicquotes.com (Two more articles tonight.) that are more vile, nauseating and cringe worthy than anything put together by Clive Barker, Steven King or Thomas Harris.

It wouldn't be so bad if the most sensational and graphic parts of the posts were made outside the first, browsable/readable, part of the feed. Therefore it is unavoidable to people looking for other topics. Of course though the click bait nature of the net demands it comes first.

This is a message to the repeat posters of articles of these sites. Enough. We are all aware of what the topic at hand entails. We know about the process, the thorough descriptions and vomitous images. We don't need to be beat over the head with it when people on this site pray for change, vote for change, donate to change and volunteer for changes in abortion as it exists in America.

You are preaching to evangelized, there aren't many converts to be had here and no one wants to have their breakfast day after day after day with the images you posit in their cranium at first light. Free Republic has replaced my morning paper and since I cancelled my real morning paper long ago, for obvious reasons, I tire of waking up every day to the printed word version of snuff films before I eat Cheerios and head out for morning cardio.

This site has firm filters on a number of websites for conspiracy theories, political reasons and content reasons. In my opinion Free Republic does not need to be littered with sensational click bait for pro-life outlets and significant driver of traffic for their fundraising and activism. This is especially true when it becomes noticeable enough that comments need to be made to that effect.

This is in no way meant as an attack on the pro-life nature of this site or a subversive way of disagreeing with the firm and off repeated statements of the ownership of Free Republic. Just as many of us are purposely not clicking on the atrocities committed to video by ISIS because we know what we'll see I'm asking people to refrain from posting the equivalent in the printed word when we can pretty much agree already that we agree on the topic.

I can understand your point about images you say are embedded in the initial article (However I can embrace reality with my coffee/breakfast), but you lost me with

"In my opinion Free Republic does not need to be littered with sensational click bait for pro-life outlets and significant driver of traffic for their fundraising and activism."

Read the point of this website from the founder again with the POV on why the "sensational click bait" as you call that, is "allowed".

Yeah, we’re all in agreement this site and the overwhelming majority of readers are pro-life.

We’re not pro snuff film and its literary equivalent.

If you have to say it’s not an attack, then it is.

You don’t have to click on the links if you are sensitive to the images, but reality cannot be pushed away forever and its horrors will be in full view of all eventually.

I just skip over them. The headline and summary are enough. I know how vile abortion is. I just simply ignore the posts.

The secret is to not read what you don’t want to read.

Links to the posts and the posters themselves please (Maybe you should ping the posters as well). Again I can see your point about the images, but the literary equivalent? Come on now.

Also if you read the description of this website, the word 'activism' is one of the central themes. Remember you are "surfing" in someones virtual private property and if the owner has no problems with the articles, tough, subscribe to your local fish wrap again.

Rollo quoted from the OP:

""In my opinion Free Republic does not need to be littered with sensational click bait for pro-life outlets and significant driver of traffic for their fundraising and activism."

Two points -

First, I double checked just now, and of the last five articles posted just this night, only one of them was excerpted. That's not "click-baiting."

Second, There's a lot of stuff that I'm not fond of that gets posted here but I found out a great way to deal with it. I don't read it!

(Sometimes the solutions are quite simple.)

That didn’t stop chet99 from being forced to stop posting articles about pit bulls. If people wouldn’t have read his posts if they didn’t want to he’d still be allowed to post about them.

Is pit bull ownership activism (For or against) a priority to the website owners?

I do know anti-abortion is though.

Nobody posts “snuff film” here. And to call images from abortion “snuff film” is implying that people here get some kind of paraphilic gratification from viewing such images, and that’s insulting, with all due respect.

I suppose one could consider a lot of articles about the horrors of abortion too much to wade through. There are a lot of other topics and specific sites that are championed (if you will) every day: Townhall, Putin/Russia articles, Mormonism, Catholicism, Investing/Gold, Semi-Satire, LGBTQ, and a host of others.

I believe it’s because there aren’t a lot of venues out there where people concerned on these topics have a place to disseminate ideas, information and to vent. In the end, I think the site is better off as a whole for it.

However, I do sometimes notice spurts of activity on one or more and I just make it a point to pass it on by, if I can. Although, I can agree that sometimes you feel like just saying stop for a while, but that’s what outside MSM wants to do to these interested posters everywhere - permanently.

"You are preaching to evangelized, there aren't many converts to be had here..."

The same could be said about all posts having to do with the treasonous acts of The Usurper, the duplicitous acts of the GOPe, the horrors of Jihad, the Islamization of the West and the fact that Ron Paul looks funny with fake eyebrows.

Should we stop posting about those things too? Most of us are pretty well "evangelized" on these matters.

It is unwise to flood FR with any topic. It quickly leads to a natural disregard of the excessively posted topic.

I could not agree more. Those annoying posts by the “Chet99 of Abortion” are very annoying. I wish she would stop her personal crusade on FR too.
