Obama's 'high horse': IS, the Crusades and moral equivalency
BBC-Echo Chambers ^ | February 6, 2015 | Anthony Zurcher

Behold the perils of invoking moral equivalency-even, or perhaps especially, when some of the events in question are separated by 800 years.

......It's difficult-almost impossible-to believe the president and his staff didn't anticipate the reaction his words would generate. The question, then, is why he picked this particular fight.

The president could just be poking the right-wing bear, says the Christian Science Monitor's Peter Grier. More likely,he continues, he's trying to counter the view-held by Limbaugh and others-that the US is at war with Islam as a whole..........

But perhaps there's more than just the religious component at play here. As Juliet Eilperin of the Washington Post points out,Thursday's speech is in keeping with Mr Obama's penchant for challenging what he sees as the US public's lack of self-reflection when it comes to their past sins and their place in the world.

"Obama's remarks spoke to his unsparing, sometimes controversial, view of the United States-where triumphalism is often overshadowed by a harsh assessment of where Americans must try harder to live up to their own self-image," she writes."Only by admitting these shortcomings,he has argued, can we fix problems and move beyond them."

Chauncey DeVega, posting on the Daily Kos,goes even farther, drawing a direct comparison between IS's murder of Jordanian pilot Muadh al Kasasbeh and the gruesome "spectacular lynchings" of the late 19th Century, which involved hanging, and burning, blacks accused of crimes.

"We cannot overlook how the United States has conducted master classes in violence and barbarism both before, during and since its founding…..and yes, much of this violence was against people of colour whose labour, lives, land and freedom were stolen to create American empire,"he writes.

Perhaps a rational dialogue about religion extremism throughout the course of history is possible-but it's increasingly clear that it's not a conversation this president can start and that this US political environment will tolerate.

As continuously does, Obama is showing us exactly how he feels about America and how he feels about Islam.

Jeremiah Wright: "God Damn America" Obama's pastor and church for 20 years.

In his own words: Barack Obama on Christianity and Islam

1. “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam”

2. “The sweetest sound I know is the Muslim call to prayer”

3. “We will convey our deep appreciation for the Islamic faith, which has done so much over the centuries to shape the world — including in my own country.”

4. “As a student of history, I also know civilization’s debt to Islam.”

5. “Islam has a proud tradition of tolerance.”

6. “Islam has always been part of America”

7. “we will encourage more Americans to study in Muslim communities”

8. “These rituals remind us of the principles that we hold in common, and Islam’s role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance, and the dignity of all human beings.”

9. “America and Islam are not exclusive and need not be in competition. Instead, they overlap, and share common principles of justice and progress, tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.”

EIB Feb 6, 2015:

..............RUSH [Limbaugh]: "I tell you, folks. I have always had... I don't care whose held the office, I've had the highest reverence for the office. One of the things that... Maybe I'm foolish. One of the things I have always believed... No matter the political party of the president, I've always believed that the person sitting in that office has as his first objective the defense and protection of this country and the Constitution.

I've assumed also that the person sitting in that office and in that chair loves this country. Not to say he doesn't have problems with it, not to say that perfect. But when I hear sound bites like this, or when I listen 'em myself or when I hear other people talking about Barack Obama, it's really difficult for me to sometimes come to grips with the fact we're talking about the president! It'd be one thing if it was just a senator out there saying these things and doing these things.

But we're talking about the president, as though it's perfectly normal and understandable that we would have a president who doesn't have a high regard for this country. It's just part and parcel. I just can't come to grips. I just can't believe that people would have actually elected the guy knowing that they were electing somebody who didn't hold this country in high regard, and it just seems like it's par for the course and very common that we've got a president elected who says and does things like Obama.

As though that's nothing really unique or special.

To me it is. I just... You know, I hear Bishop Jackson here talking about, "The president does everything possibly he can to defend Islam and does nothing to defend the honor of this country." I can't think of a president we would ever talk about where that would be asserted. Now, I wasn't alive during Woodrow Wilson, so he's the last full-fledged... Well, but he was a huge liberal. Don't misunderstand. Woodrow Wilson a huge liberal. Even FDR, for crying out loud. Nobody would ever mistake FDR for somebody that thought this country had a price to pay for its very existence, like Obama apparently does."

Yeah, a defensive war to prevent the extortion, murder and harassment of Christian pilgrims and to regain the native sovereignty of an area from Muslim invaders equals what the ISIS thugs do

Got it, yep really equivalent

It was deliberate. I don't know if he's Muslim or not, but he definitely hates Christians and Jews. His remarks were aimed at his base, most of whom abandoned their faith or never had any to begin with. He also is aiming at our young people who have been sufficiently indoctrinated by our commie public school system. If these young people learned anything all about the Crusades (most probably didn't), they were taught the same lies told by Obama. He's enforcing what they were brainwashed into believing.

“It’s difficult-almost impossible-to believe the president and his staff didn’t anticipate the reaction his words would generate. The question, then, is why he picked this particular fight.”

Because Obama wasn’t really speaking to the West or to Christians. He was speaking to the Middle East.

Islam still has a real thing about the Crusades.
He knew his words would be reported all over the world and that Muslims would say, “Yeah! Damn right!”

This speech was a shout out to the Muslims of the world.
He doesn’t care how the West reacts to his lecture.

Star Parker spoke briefly to Mark Levin about Obama’s speech at the prayer breakfast which she attended. Maybe the FR Levin thread covered it, but briefly here’s what I caught:

The PB had a very broad range of attendees including very many from abroad. Christians, Jews, and Muslims, and others.

Obama’s entrance was received with only polite curtesy, audience rising and a very brief quiet clapping.

As Obama progressed into the “high horse”. Many mouths dropped in disbelief.

On Obama’s finish, as Star Parker related, only the majority of the white Christian contingent rose and applauded, the rest remained seated and silent.

Will check Parker’s and Levin’s page for more, as he could only give her a short amount of time.

What will come of this speech? Hard to say, but unlike Obama’s other mistakes smothered and obscured by the msm, this one will get broader reactions at the fundamental level as the attendees return to their congregations.

Weekend comments from pulpits should prove interesting regarding this latest Molotov cocktail.

As usually, Rush articulates what I Was thinking. And thus my anger at Republicans. They know this, and do nothing. I had to come to grips with the fact that they like what Obama is doing.

But America IS NOT at war with Islam.
Islam IS at war with America and Western Civilization.
We SHOULD BE at war with Islam but America has no leadership and just flounders along in this regard..
