New Glock w/optical site base Popular at Shot Show Industry Day at the Range

The new Glock 40 10mm with factory optical site mount.  A long slide version with a 6 inch barrel is available.  This could be important in some states, such as Wisconsin, which requires a minimum 5 inch barrel for hunting big game with a handgun.  I saw the pistol at the industry day at the range for the Shot Show in Las Vegas on Monday.

I asked if Glock had entered this pistol in the Army competition for a new, more powerful handgun.  The representative did not know.

The line to try out the new Glock was fairly long; I did not shoot it, but a close friend had obtained one.   He is an accomplished shooter.  He said that the big difference that he noticed was the speed with which 50 yard hits could be made.    Hits on man sized targets should be easily made out to 100 yards, if a supported position, such as kneeling, sitting, or from a rest, were used.

He also stated that some shooters were co-indexing the iron sites so that the dot on the optical site sat on top of the iron sights.  Then the transition from iron to optical would be easy and seamless.

I could see it on a 10mm.

Probably not on a 19 or any other smaller model.

JMHO, coverage this year is not as good as last or at least seems slow. Hope somebody gives a good recap. Gunblast.com pretty good, but relying too much on video.

Just as a general comment—

I am getting really tired of having to sit through five minutes of marginal video to get the same information I could have gotten in 30 seconds of skimming an article.

Not just on gun stuff, but on everything.

It seems everyone thinks they are Judy Garland and Mickey Rooeny—”My Dad has a barn..lets put on a show.” They get a Go Pro and everyone is Cecil B.

Wow, I couldn’t agree with you more. I really think people just like to hear themselves talk. GET TO THE POINT.

I hope you like my articles, as I try to do what you have suggested.

Most video is included as a link, but is usually not necessary for the article.

i agree. i ccw either a 19 or a 26 and that would definitely have the potential to hang up on a draw. plus we don't expect to be engaging targets at 50m for self defense.

I couldn't imagine a 6” barrel for cc. I occasionally carry 5.25” Springfield but even it is a bit too long.

Most of the time it is a matter of not having the time to watch. I can read and skim an article in seconds, and then decide to watch the video.

I tend to frequent a variety of commercial and “portal” sites (like FR.) Its on the portal sites that lead me to most of the video stuff in lieu of articles. If the article looks good, I will bookmark the video for when I have a better connection and more time.

Just keep that in mind—the article will draw people to the video. And videos are only good for well connected, higher power computers. My tablet works fine at home, but if I am on the road the connections are just so bad that videos are “iffy” at best.

And I know that I am writing in the first tense...as if mine was the only opinion that matters. I am not THAT important. Please take the advice as just that. The voice of one person.

Good luck.

I think you speak for a lot of us — I frequently scan articles on my phone and send a link to myself to view videos when I’m on my laptop.

I really like that pen. If I squint there seems to be what looks like a Glock next to it.

I know. It sucks.

Every home-brewed gun video these days has a thirty second Swedish death metal intro with clip-art 3D graphics of lightning bolts shooting in all directions before you finally see some hayseed dressed up like Cooter Coltrane in overalls and WileyX shooting glasses moping in front of the camera out behind his barn.

Then another forty seconds of introductions and "What we're doing today is gonna fire this hyar Ruger .380 LCP at a wet phone book."

That’s funny.

I took my go pro shooting one day. I thought it would be cool.

It wasn’t.

How can anyone develop a romantic attachment to the ugliest pistol ever made.
