My solution is iTunes with my ipod/iphone and a flash drive in my car.

even oldies stations suck.

BTW I can listen to just about everything from ragtime to swing(no jazz after 1947 or so) to country(up to and including Willy and Waylon but not much after...that’s bubble gum country) to blues(Delta through Chicago) to rock to rock and roll(yes there is a difference) and assorted classical.

Not having grown up in the 80s, I wouldn't know what songs are good from that time, but my mom likes the song Take On Me. My dad likes the song Don't Worry Be Happy and I kinda got hooked on at as a youngster because he played it so much.

Lots of stuff I didn’t like in the 80s that I like today.

I’m in. I suppose we could take the top six Billboard songs for each year as the list, and then vote on the other four.

I was drunk in the 80s so the only song I remember is White Wedding.

One of my all time favorites was the top of the charts the day I was born in 64.

However I like a lot of different music.

I sometimes put on 80s funk music in the background. It puts me right back to that time. And it is genuinely upbeat music that makes Michigan winters bearable.

Music is funny. I couldn't stand the Talking Heads in the 80s but these days I get kind of nostalgic about them. Just a better time I guess. Plus they were very original.

In the 80s, my listening interests had already started focusing on older stuff, and much of the 80s pop music was just background noise at work and in the car. But later I started hearing songs I really liked - 80s songs, of course. It was like discovering music I really liked according to my own tastes. So it would be interesting to see how my favorites would compare vs. those of someone to whom the 80s are their “home decade”. Like you, I enjoy music of nearly all genres (rap and hiphop generally excluded).

Any songs that are as overplayed as this disgusting tripe should automatically be unincluded on such a battle.

I’m guessing one sectional winner will be pleading other sectional winners to “Take On Me.”
