Rand Paul On Shutdown: "Even Though It Appeared I Was Participating In It, It Was A Dumb Idea"
I said throughout the whole battle that shutting down the government was a dumb idea. Even though it did appear as if I was participating in it, I said it was a dumb idea. And the reason I voted for it, though, is that it's a conundrum. Here's the conundrum. We have a $17 trillion debt and people at home tell me you can't give the president a blank check. We just can't keep raising the debt ceiling without conditions. So unconditionally raising the debt ceiling, nobody at home wants me to vote for that and I can't vote for that. But the conundrum is if I don't we do approach these deadlines. So there is an impasse. In 2011, though, we had this impasse and the president did negotiate. We got the sequester. If we were to extend the sequester from discretionary spending to all the entitlements we would actually fix our problem within a few years.

Rand Paul's immigration speech
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform
Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...

Well everybody loved Linder so we voted Woodall in and Mr GG2 and I have gone down the road with him for two elections. He just isn’t doing the job. Everybody is getting sick of his loyalty to Boehner so he can hang onto his committee assignments. We go to all the townhalls. We are not voting for him in 2016.

Primarying is extremely difficult. Only one Republican has defeated another incumbent in a primary in GA at the federal level in the modern era, and that was in 2002 when John Linder beat Bob Barr (and this was incumbent vs. incumbent).

The only substantial challenger Woodall faced was in 2010 against Jody Hice. But, as you know, Hice just ran in Paul Broun’s 10th and successfully won, so recruiting him is out. Getting a potential challenger against Woodall is going to have to occur as early as now for 2016. Woodall will be well-funded and getting a similarly well-funded challenger will be paramount.

Yes, primarying incumbents is difficult. But these are historic times. The Dems are already signalling the next two years will be one bloody political brawl after another. In that environment I can see an energized base removing those GOPers who supported and funded Obama’s amnesty. We’re mad as hell and we’re not going to take it any more from the GOPe.

We’ve got to make the omnibus bill vote the obamacare vote for the GOPe and hang them with it. No do-overs on amnesty. Once it’s done, it’s done.

We need to get on the attack now and not wait for the primaries. The GOPe are already trying to pretend that vote ever happened. We need to keep pounding on them and not let the issue go away.

He is my rep, still a fence sitter on some things.

Praise the good and chastise for the bad - at least he seems to have some redeeming qualities when compared to many of our "reps".

Jody Hice is really a good person and even though I’m heartbroken that Paul Broun is leaving and did not get the senate seat there are plenty of others that can run agains’t Rob Woodall. He’s so sure of himself that he even boasted at a townhall he didn’t even have $50,000 in his warchest.

I’m assuming you don’t live in GA as you sound like you just know what you read but the 7th Dist is the most conservative dist in GA. When people got sick of Bob Barr they got rid of him and now we are getting sick of Rob Woodall. The last few townhalls have not been too friendly. We will either get someone to run agains’t him or we will all vote for the Libertarian. Would not bother me a bit.

It’s funny. My observation is that usually the “good guys” (at least when they go to Washington) tend to curdle within 6 years of arrival. Woodall seems to have done so in barely under 4. Good luck in finding a substantive challenger to him.

Woodall never curdled. He was a Boehner lapdog from the gitgo. We all tried to put him on the right path but it just did not work. He is no John LInder.

John Linder got sick of fighting year after year for the Fair Tax and getting nowhere. He finally gave it up.

Yeah, I know he put in a good 18 years in DC. At 72, I can understand he wouldn’t want to spend his twilight years back in the cesspool.

TN-5th (Jim Cooper). My district hasn’t elected a Republican since U.S. Grant won his 2nd term in 1872. Utterly useless.
