Three Reasons Why Black Men Should Openly Carry a Gun after Trayvon, Ferguson, and John Crawford
Huffington Post ^ | 12/01/2014 | H. A. Goodman

I never thought I'd be an open carry advocate.

However, I'm a firm believer in working within the American political system in order to change the status quo. If the 2nd Amendment is cherished by millions of Americans, then why not use it to further certain liberal ideals? Protecting African-American lives and alleviating tensions between the black community and law enforcement should be a top priority of all Americans and especially Congress, however this is not the case. It speaks volumes that African-Americans vote over 90% Democrat during national elections, yet our future nominee in 2016 still hasn't addressed an issue the whole nation is talking about; even after Darren Wilson's acquittal and the flames that engulfed Ferguson.

With all our advancements as a nation, there's still a correlation between today and 1895; the year Ida B. Wells wrote The Red Record. We live in a surreal time period where the deaths of unarmed black males still take place, even though we have a black president and African-Americans today possess more rights than at any other point in U.S. history. While rioting by a very small percentage of protestors does a disservice to the memory of Michael Brown and the cause of saving black lives or preventing future Fergusons, there are legal and more effective ways to solve our nation's moral conundrum pertaining to racial profiling, police brutality, and issues related to the deaths of unarmed citizens.

There is a reason the NRA trains Police and not the other way around.

“Trained” as in taking the C&C class by a certified NRA instructor for your permit...

Why do you think the NRA has, or should have, a monopoly on firearms training?

The NRA is responsible for Harry Reid still being in the Senate. I prefer they roll over and die.

I have a CCW. I didn't have to pay the NRA extortion fee.

The responsibility of carrying a firearm would certainly have caused Mike Brown to mature in judgement, reflect on his civic duties, and exercise control of his impulses.

This is a great article. He says that instead of destroying buildings, black men should open carry to show that they have passed a background check and are law abiding. I was going to post this but you posted it first - good for you!

Dear Idiot HuffPo writer,

Do you realize that you just parroted the NRA’s founding mission statement?

Probably not, because you are a purposefully ignorant fool.

I just watched the 2nd Hunger Games movie and your pictorial is a very good parallel to a scene in the movie. The main characters were at a “presidential party” being thrown in their honor and one of the other attendees references some tray of food, saying that they should try this delicious offering:

The male character responds, “I don’t think I could eat another bite.”
The other character says, “here drink this. It is concocted to help you vomit and then you can eat more! That way you can try everything at this great feast.”
The male turns to his female counterpart and states, “while people are starving in district 12, they vomit so they can eat more here in the capital district!”

I am messing it up badly, but it nearly parallels your pictorial.

I believe the founders intended that.
They made no provision for denying the rights of felons to their BoR guaranteed rights.

I say if someone can’t be trusted to carry a firearm, he should not be free amongst the rest of us.

“You think it’s a grand idea to have every gangbanger and knuckle dragger allowed to carry open with no training...by all means go for it...”

They alread do. Your requirements do nothing more than the left’s already succesfull disarming of the law abiding citizen.

“I am completely pro 2nd amendment ...but also live in reality...”

If you were “completely pro 2nd amendment, you wouldn’t have to follow it with a “but.” In addition, based on your first statement, you do NOT live in the reality of the disarmed inner city law abiding citizen.

“so you think weapons should be treated like candy in a candy store...no training on responsible use of a weapon...?”

The lawless gangbanging thugs already DO treat firearms as candy.

“We ask people to pass a test to drive a car...it’s reasonable to ask people to pass a test to carry a weapon...”

Where is the “right of the people to keep and drive a car” in our BOR?

perhaps the ones with felony convictions should not be encouraged at this point.Wait for the executive order granting them amnesty from any American law. Perhaps the central Americans are being brought up so every black man will own one or two, as there are not enough mules to go around.

“Perhaps the part that states “well regulated”?”

You are mis interpreting the use of “well regulated.” It is not a reference to “regulation.” That phrase meant that the weapons were “in good working order” or were “properly calibrated.” This phrase was used by the framers to ensure that the government could NOT do precisely what your interpretation says. It was to prevent the government to encumber our ability to carry arms with conditional requirements.

OK. I think that open carry should be permitted with similar training.

I’m glad that Florida has at least permitted “brief exposure” in the concealed carry law now, so you don’t have trouble with the law if your shirt rides up a little too high while reaching up.

I’m afraid you’re mis-interpreting my use of “well regulated” - which in regards to the Second Amendment refers to “well trained”.

We were discussing training weren’t we?
