Park City, Utah, officials were the latest in a series of local governments that have been forced to respect the Constitution by the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF). SAF has run up an impressive number of legal wins to protect second amendment rights. It has become the ACLU of the gun culture.
In the Park City case, the city had adopted local laws in direct violation of the second amendment and Utah state preemption law.
The city law prohibited all use and possession of firearms; all carrying of concealed weapons; carrying of loaded guns inside a vehicle; showing a gun in an angry or threatening manner (no exceptions for justified use of force); and using a gun in a fight.
A city hall attorney, Tricia Lake, was clear about the illegality of the city's law. From parkrecord.com:
" Had the City Council not repealed the sections, the restrictions "would amount to unlawfully restricting an individual's rights under the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution . . . " as well as rights outlined in the Utah Constitution, the report said. The council members were not happy about being required to obey the Constitution.
City Councilor Liza Simpson said it was "simply irritating." Simpson said she would not be the City Councilor who made the motion to approve the repeal. They reluctantly repealed the illegal gun laws on 25 November of 2014. The council members seem quite willing to create law for others to obey.
"Do we have to," Cindy Matsumoto, another member of the City Council, said.
City officials that abridge basic 2A RIGHTS need to be stood up against a wall.
Park City is a ski town popular with the limousine liberal set.
Enough said.
Here's our sanctimonious leftist pal Liza. She looks a little bit like Daniel Boone. I hope no raccoons were harmed in the making of that hairdo.
please do not insult these freedom loving, Constitution abiding folks by saying they are the ACLU of the gun culture. I would not want to be compared to them in any way, shape or form.
Don't be dissin’ my ancestor there bub!
Looks like a wig.
We are not amused!
The hair reminds me of Torricelli’s toupee.
Even here in Utah there are the stirrings of the LIB termites eating away at Freedom. Libs are destructive of America in every instance. Someone call the Orkin man!
None of them are native to Utah. Liza “Raccoon” Simpson is originally from Berkley, CA. The rest of the loons come from Ohio, Michigan, New York City, and San Diego.
Is it possible to find a conservative ski area?
Actively legislating against the Constitution is treasonous. Patriots must demand state’s attorneys take action against these traitors with charges of treason.
Scum Communist.
Having to make laws according to the constitution “City Councilor Liza Simpson said it was “simply irritating.”
Communists show their face. When trying to invoke their liberal agenda, the constitution “simply irritating.”
There it is.. at least she is an honest commi.
Liza came to Park City in 1989 after living in St George, Utah and Sun Valley, Idaho. Originally from Berkeley, California, she moved to Park City to work for Mrs. Fields Cookies. Her first day at work was Arts Festival Weekend and she sold Robert Redford a brownie!
oh man...the excitement she must have felt...the high water mark of her career??
She went from Mrs. Fields to the lodging industry, as part of the management team at the Old Miners' Lodge Bed and Breakfast until 2004. She has worked on Main Street, managing Java Cow Cafe, and currently for Dolly's Bookstore. She and her husband Chris Wickland were married in City Park. They enjoy the trails both winter and summer with their two Welsh Corgis.
Liza has volunteered for Park City Park Hosts, Planned Parenthood, during the Olympics for the City and VIS, Riding for the Range, Latino outreach, Peace House and served on the Recreation Advisory Board from 2003 until 2008.
Can't we just cordon off Berkeley and let it wither on the vine?
