New England is beyond a doubt the most socialist section of the country. For all their talk about “Boston Strong” and “Hearty New Englanders,” they are the most committed supporters of Democrat liberals. Last Wednesday their loyalty to Barack Obama was rewarded with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) crushing blow to New England’s cod fishing industry.
Obama’s henchmen at NOAA placed a, “six-month ban on most cod fishing off New England this week and are threatening to cut next year’s catch by up to 75 percent.” Given the extent of the damage this ban will do, observers have estimated that it will destroy the livelihoods of people in and out of the fishing business throughout the deep blue region.
The cynically timed, post-election NOAA edict, which takes effect immediately, shuts down fishing from Provincetown, Massachusetts to the Canadian border. No cod trawling may take place in the Gulf of Maine until April 30, 2015.
On hearing of this crippling announcement from Obama’s NOAA, a Gloucester fisherman gasped, “It’s all over! I’m done. My grandfather’s done it, [cod trawling] my father’s done it. I brought my kids into doing it.”
Now stuck in Obama’s web, he explained that his craft is not equipped to continue operations. His boat, which he uses to haul in between 700 and 2500 pounds of cod a day, is too small to make the round trip far enough away from NOAA’s clutches to...

I can just imagine how high the price of cod will soar. We eat cod at least twice a week and it’s a very reasonable price unlike tuna, halibut and swordfish.
Liberals all need to step away from the media and start looking at issues realistically.

We think it is better tasting and easier to grill or fix in our convection oven. Costco has a great price on frozen/pre seasoned fillets when we can’t get the fresh Pacific Cod during the Gorebull Warming winters when everything freezes up north.

I wonder how many of these Cod Fishermen, their family members, friends and neighbors have blindly voted for Herr Obozo at least twice if not more times.

I do feel sorry for them, not all people that live in NE are hard leftist socialists, some are quite sane, and conservative, some Biblical Christians even.

Not everyone in New England is a Progressive or voted for Obama. The rural areas are mostly Conservative while the cities rule the ballot boxes.
As tough and as patriotic as many working-class people from Boston are, they vote party-line Democrat. Have for decades. Especially the Irish. In cases like this you can’t judge a single person, you have to judge the region as a whole. And that region as a whole has been solid leftist for a very long time.
The fishing community up here tends to be conservative but there aren’t enough to counteract the commies in York and Cumberland Counties plus the strongholds around the colleges and universities. However, a lobsterman that I know well has a Obama sticker on his truck. He complains about the new “save the whale” regulations (as a recent example) but doesn’t see the connection to leftists. He just buys the “for working men and women” meme.

I am directly affected by this. These recent NOOA decisions affect commercial,recreational and charterboat people.
This disaster started a few years back when Obama appointee Jane Lubchenco turned the large draggers loose on a large area that was off limits to them.
We were allowed to do charters in this area using rod and reel and were heavily restricted for more than 10 years.
The cod and Haddock made a great comeback and Lubchenco facilitated the large draggers in wiping them out. Then NOOA declared an emergency.
Like a bolt out of the blue charterboats were forbidden to take cod or haddock after October 31, 2014
That was a crippling blow to charteroats. We usually fish into November.
Right now, no one has any idea of what will happen next spring. But the speculation is pretty gloomy.

So that's why you said they brought it upon themselves. Would you apply that same logic to the Boston Marathon bombings and the toppling of the Twin Towers on 9/11? New York been solid leftist for decades. Several Irish American first responders died in the towers that day.
The fishermen of New England have been fighting tyrannical government regulation for decades and are losing their way of life to those regulations and to foreign fishing fleets that don't have to abide by the same regulations.
The New England fishermen, like the above mentioned victims, did not bring it upon themselves.
