Cory Gardner: Gov’t shutdown not the “mature” option for majority
HotAir ^ | 11/14/2014 | Ed Morrissey

How many times can Cory Gardner explain that his answer to a government shutdown is “absolutely not”? We may not know the actual ceiling on that, but not for lack of effort from the Morning Joe crew. The newly-elected Senator from Colorado explains that “a mature governing body” should not have that on its radar at all, and instead emphasizes that Republicans took control of the Senate in order to expedite solutions, not obstruct the process.

Gardner suggests that obstruction will come from the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue.

Democrats tried hard to paint the GOP as the Party of No ever since they lost control of the House in 2010. That attack didn’t stick, though, in part because the House did pass a number of bills on issues that actually mattered to voters — the economy, job creation, controlling government spending, and so on. That message got stepped on a bit a year ago in the budget standoff that resulted in targeted agency shutdowns, and GOP polling reflected it — right up until the ObamaCare rollout turned so disastrous that people forgot about Republican attempts to use the budget to stop it.

I voted for Gardner. Never again. I’m done with the R’s. Nothing but a bunch of spineless rotten statists who like to stab their voters in the back. Screw ‘em all.

Just when you think they get it!

“To simply say no to everything is unacceptable,” Gardner said. “But I think the President also needs to do the right thing and work with Congress.”

When have the Democrats & Obama compromised with Republicans the last 6 years?

Cory is correct.

Shutting down the government is not the mature action. The mature action is to pass legislation ... and let the little brat in the WH decide if he wants to be immature and shut down the government (take his toys and go home).

Doesn't matter. R's are the ones who ALWAYS fall over themselves in the name of "bipartisanship". I'm so pi$$ed with the whole lot. Just done with them. Just like the D's, only worse, because we expect better of the R's. Time and again, however, they prove to be nothing more than spineless America haters.

Not gonna happen. Period. Republicans don’t have the balls and, even if they did, the left would paint the R’s as the bad guys, and the R’s would sit back and take it. Nope, electing a majority of R’s didn’t do a damn thing. Watch.

Unfortunately, the MSM will be the same as it was when President Clinton had a Republican Congress, "The President says that all Republican proposed legislation will hurt Americans and if they don't send him something he can, in good conscience, sign, it will be the Republicans who are responsible for any government shutdown".

I’m sorry, this is so ridiculous. Do the Republicans really believe that an ideologue like Obama will have any trouble whatsoever vetoing every single thing the House and Senate send his way. He is at war with our constitution and they refuse to fight back because it will look bad? It that what we’re suppose to believe? They remain a group of arrogant, self-important limp-wristed, ineffectual morons. Every in the pocket of the corporatists that bought and paid for them. As someone posted the other day, “Let’s bring back tar and feathering,” and I’m not talking about doing it to Obama. We know where he stands and why. It needs to be done the imbeciles on our side - Mitch, John and you too, Cory. I’m angry enough to go bear hunt’in with a switch! Get me on a bus to D.C.

Sorry, son...you ran for office so you could sit at the adult table.

"A mature party wouldn't shut down the government," is not a plan.

What's your plan, son? To look high-minded and allow Obama's imports to overrun the country and the budget?

What's your plan, son?

The first thing the new Congress should do is pass a bill my majority vote only (51 votes) that only a majority vote (51 votes) is required to enact legislation without Presidential approval. This is no different than what Obama intends to do by enacting legislation without Congressional approval. If one is unconstitutional then both are. I just wish Cruz was in charge, he might do it.

It didn’t take this guy long to tack hard middle.

Gardner will be comfortable with the mush distributed by Lamar Alexander, Lindsay Graham, Bob Corker, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, et al.
