As we have seen with Duncan and Venson, with the 'soup reporter' and now with Dr. Spencer, people just don't voluntarily quarantine themselves - call it a superman complex, I guess. So, if the problem is left to the community, who in the ‘community’ exactly is going volunteer to step up and sit on the porch of the infected to enforce quarantine?

This issue is akin to citizens ceding their right to nuclear weapons to the gov’t. Like it or not, there are a few issues where the grave imperiling of large fractions of the total population indeed warrants an orderly ceding of rights. If we’re at serious risk of losing some 70% of the population within weeks, dramatic steps must be taken; that said, such measures better be appropriate & valid lest severe consequences be appropriate.
Sometimes the nexus of rights just doesn’t bode well, and there’s no convenient resolution.
And anyone suggesting homeopathic prevention of Ebola has grounds for being completely ignored for being a total moron.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

I don’t know whether this is true. I do know the plans for the local hosptials is put the patient is a body bag (they are leakproof) leave the face unzipped, mask the patient and prepare them for a move to a more prepared facility.
