It’s not why I moved to a Mac, but my biggest beef with MS/Windows has long been the system registry model for storing settings for almost everything. The registry file inevitably bloats to enormous proportions (often, even with registry cleaners) and many people who aren’t aware of that are fooled into thinking they need a new computer when all the really need is to clean up the mess (unfortunately, the easiest way to do that is usually to back up essential files and reformat the HD).
Not every developer follows the guidelines on this, but these settings are generally stored in the application package (OS X applications are packages into what appears to be one file) and don’t get loaded into memory or slow your computer down if you aren’t using an app.
The reason I switched over was color management. I’m a photographer and at the time I switched, proper color management was a nightmare in windows.
You explained it far better than could’ve, Bill93. :^)
