Two Americas. The Cure to Secession
Coach is Right ^ | 10/5/14 | Jason Barry

Secession fever hits America yet again. But for the first time in American history a cure is available which can appease conservatives and liberals alike while keeping America together as one nation.

And what is this cure? It is the Two Americas Movement (www.twoamericasmovement.org) ; that is, a movement to formalize the divide in America by allowing conservatives and liberals to live their lives independently of each other. It is a formal movement to reshape America from 50 States with limited power to 2 States, each with full power.

Of course it will be up to Americans to take the cure.

It is no secret that our current system of government is a failure. It desperately needs an overhaul, but the two sides of our government (Democrats & Republicans) adamantly disagree on how that overhaul should look. The result is a government in shambles, an economy teetering on the brink of collapse, and a country in which the beliefs of citizens on both sides are completely ignored.

Let’s face it, Americans are ready for a change. And a big change at that.

The only way to fulfill this desire for change is to grant each side exactly what it wants–freedom from the other. By reshaping America into only two States, one Democrat and one Republican, we can give both sides full control to overhaul the government as they see fit without...

Never happen. Liberalism is a disease...like Ebola...no boundaries.

States can never secede from the union.

The issue was decided by conquest in the War Between the States.

The Libs would NEVER allow Conservatives to live our sin lives the way we want. There wouldn’t be enough money in Democratland to pay for all the moochers.

i’m not much for federalism disguised as a solution.

honestly it’d be the first step at splitting up.

“The Libs would NEVER allow Conservatives to live our sin lives the way we want. “

I think you have that backwards. It’s the socons who’d shut down “sin lives.” :)

You mean keep it just like it is with two segments constantly at war? This is idiotic.

Either keep it like it is or split it in two. We haven’t gotten along since the Civil War with VERY few instances of coming together in between (WW II being an example.)

I sure hope no one gets paid to come up with this stuff.

This is the “hang separately” option.

” Both would remain united in common defense and interests, and both would remain under one flag as America.”

That doesn’t sound like a solution. Whomever controls the military would also control the 2 entities. That’s a recipe for a military dictatorship. The only good outcome would be a military dictator that permits a measure of free market capitalism and beats the crap out of the commies and Leftists. As far as I’m concerned, if we reached that point, I would want these pieces of garbage thrown in camps.

The only solution is individual states seceding and forming a sovereign nation. Whether that means civil war is anyone’s guess. We are so removed from the constitution right now that any pretense to care about legalities is frivolous.

When we were a Republic of mainly independent states, government was more in line with the citizen.

What about those of us who live in conservative areas of liberal states - are we in a hopeless situation?

Leftism requires them to control other people. Leftists cannot leave other people alone, they are not capable of it. Plus who is going to pay for all their socialism?

So...ultimately, an EU style model is the best we can come up with? Sorry, not buying into this one.

Secession is still a viable option. Until then, carving up large states controlled by major metro areas will be a better solution. For instance, my home state of Ohio should be at least two, perhaps three states, to lessen the imbalance created by the major metros (Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus).
California should be three states, at least. New York should be two, at minimum. Virginia should be two, along with Georgia, Florida, Oregon, and Nevada. There are others that should be split up, of course (MI, ME, WI, IL, TX, etc.).

Added advantage would be to dilute the ‘power’ of Congressional representatives.

Also, Senate should be elected by the State legislatures, as designed by the Founders. That’s a good model, well reasoned.

Two ‘states’? Nah. That’s just goofy.

The only way to fulfill this desire for change is to grant each side exactly what it wants–freedom from the other. By reshaping America into only two States, one Democrat and one Republican, we can give both sides full control to overhaul the government as they see fit without breaking up the country in secession. The Republicans can live in a limited government and low tax state (with very little federal involvement). And Democrats can live in a social utopia state with equality in all things and a central unifying government. Both would remain united in common defense and interests, and both would remain under one flag as America.

What if only one side wants to pay for national defense?

Only because the wrong side won that one. Next time, they won't be so lucky.

what a joke.

read the details. half the counties in NY can join one state and half the counties the other state?

non-contiguous? absurd.
makes about as much sense as New Hampshire joining the confederacy.

Do you really think the Democrats/so-called "Liberals"/Leftists would let everyone else live in peace and liberty?????

This kind of thing is what we've had all along: Each state makes its own laws, sets its own standards, etc. The problem is that Democrats/so-called "Liberals"/Leftists want everything to be uniform--and according to their wishes.

This is like the bumper stickers that ask how one can co-exist with someone who wants to kill him.

Cannot work. The liberals will always flow from the Liberal economically dying states to the vibrant Conservative states and vote them Liberal. It is the same phenomenon we see when Californians escape the Crime and Regulatory asphyxiation of California to salvation in the freedom and low crime of Colorado then Mr. Sanfrancisco turns to his wife over a cup of coffee and says to her, “It is so wonderful here. It would be perfect if it just had some more Services!” Then they go vote.

Dims don't have to do anything but bide their time.

Like it or not, over just a few more elections cycles, the dims will dominate due to changing demographics of age, etnicity and race.
