Unemployed Would Rather Shop Than Look For A Job

According to the bureau of labor statistics people who the government consider unemployed are twice as likely to go shopping as they are to look for a job. Keep in mind the government under counts the unemployed by shifting millions out of unemployment by declaring they’ve simply given up looking for work. As it stands today, job growth is barely keeping up with population growth. The country has millions of people who are unemployed, many of whom consider shopping more important than looking for a job. Unemployment and other welfare benefits are making life unemployed too easy.

It isn’t just that the unemployed went shopping at a two to one rate over looking for a job. It’s that less than a fifth of unemployed persons looked for work on a daily basis. Over 80% of the unemployed didn’t bother looking for a job daily. This suggests two things about the unemployed. Some were likely unemployed long term and had given up looking for work, believing the economy and their skills would not earn them a job. Others are being paid lavishly by the government to the point that working a job no longer earns them significantly more than being unemployed. If welfare nets a person $20,000 a year in direct checks, food stamps and section 8 housing for doing absolutely nothing, working a job for $22,500 isn’t worth it. Why bother working 40 hours a week when you can make practically as much doing nothing?

The poor aren’t stupid. If giving up 40 hours a week doesn’t result in a significantly higher income they aren’t going to bother working. The middle class does the same thing. If presented with two jobs, one for 50 hours a week and one for 40 hours a week a typical middle class employee will choose the 40 hour a week job if the 50 hour a week job doesn’t provide a substantial increase in salary for the extra hours worked. The American poor are no different. Why would anyone work when the government provides so much for doing absolutely nothing?

Clearly the American poor have figured out that welfare pays almost as well as working but without all the bother of actually having to do something eight hours a day. While it is true that welfare doesn’t generally pay as well as a job, benefits are so generous that the extra earned at a job simply isn’t worth it. Working 40 hours a week for an extra couple thousand dollars isn’t worth it when someone can earn so much for not working at all. Is it any wonder that less than 20% of the unemployed bother looking for work on a daily basis? No wonder legions of Americans have given up looking for a job. Welfare pays too well.

In paying people not to work, the government is sapping the poor of human dignity. The left no doubt will argue these benefits are needed to prevent the indignity of extreme poverty. However in providing such lavish benefits, the government is sapping the poor of their human dignity. There is no hope for people who become slavishly dependent on the government to provide for them. There’s no hope of ever getting ahead when someone is dependent on the state. By making welfare more attractive than work, the government ensures that the poor remain poor and the Democrats ensure that the poor always vote for them. There is no room for human dignity when Democrats have elections to win.

White House Email Tells Americans To ‘Slide To The Left’

9:44 PM 09/08/2014

Patrick Howley
Political Reporter

The White House told Americans in an email to “slide to the left” to find out how the economy has improved.

The White House sent an email Monday evening touting alleged economic improvements during the Obama presidency. The subject line of the email: “Slide to the left.”

“Slide to the left” the email begins, in bold type.

The winking political nature of the email is noticeable, though the White House may not have wanted its jokey political reference to sound like it came from an Orwellian P.A. system telling people to slide down in line in some clinical government cafeteria.

“While there’s still a lot more work to do, the economy has improved significantly since President Obama took office in 2009,” the email claimed. “…you can see the progress we’ve made in four key economic sectors that have helped make 10 million jobs possible. Want to see exactly how far we’ve come since the Great Recession? Just slide to the left.” The email then encourages people to slide their mouses left over an interactive graphic to look at some stats on auto production.

Where, pray tell, does the Constitution authorize the congress to establish ANY social welfare assistance program?
James Madison

“I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents.”

Let me tell you a story that demonstrates why raising the minimum wage is a bad thing.

Take two people:

Person A - worked hard for many years and saved up 1 million dollars and now no longer works, but instead chooses to live off his savings.

Person B - was a moron who didn't pay attention in school and instead choose to party all the time and has been stuck in minimum wage jobs all his life and has zero savings. But, he does make $1,000 a month for his labors.

now in this world there are items each person can buy:

1 - food. There is plenty of food for sale, so both A and B only have to spend $100 a month on food.

2 - housing. There is a shortage of homes so there are only two homes for rent. One rents for $1,500 a month and is really nice. And the other rents for $900 a month but is really crummy. (A rents the nice one and B rents the crummy one)

3 - car. There is a shortage of cars though and the only one available to rent is $400 a month. Since B must eat and have shelter he cant afford a car and A pays $400 to rent the car.

So.... lets add this up:

A - spends $2000 a month (but has a nice house and car)
B - spends $1000 a month but only has a crummy house and food.

So... B sees how nice A is living and decides it isn't fair! and gets a liberal government to DOUBLE the minimum wage. So now HE can afford everything A has. B now makes $2000 a month!!!!

BUT WAIT!

“A” still has a million dollars in the bank...

So here is what happens:

1 - Food. The cost of food stays the same, because there is plenty of it, so both A and B continue to pay $100 for food.

2 - Housing. There is STILL only two houses for rent... one nice for $1,500 and one crummy for $900. B which now has twice as much money because the minimum wage has been doubled by liberals in government now tries to rent the nice house for $1,500. BUT, “A” wants the nice house too, and is willing to pay the owner $3000 for it. So A again gets the nice house, and B can only afford the crummy one. But here's the kicker. The guy that rents the crummy house knows he has the only house to rent and that B who just got his salary doubled has to have a place to live... so.... The owner of the crummy house decides to charge $1,900 for it, and B who has to have a place to live.. pays the $1,900.

B is now out of money again... and A of course is the only one able to buy the car which still rents for $400

So... in the end:

B still got the same food, the same crummy house and no car, as he had before the minimum wage was doubled.

A still got the same food, the same great house and the car. BUT He had to pay $3,500 for them.

So doubling the wage of B accomplished NOTHING except to take extra money away from A each month.

And WHY? Because the government is apying a vast number of able bodied (for the most part) to sit on their dead asses and collect our money. Until you can get the deadbeats off welfare and on the workforces China will continue to outperform the USA from and economic viewpoint.

Yep! On the money occupied ga - take heed Cringing: Read. Learn.

And don't forget, government is also applying punitive tax rates, punitive regulations, punitive enviro rules - and of course, the liberal trial lawyers are suing everybody six ways from Sunday. We will continue to import Chinese goods until we EXPORT our LIBERALISM. Until then, consumers and companies need to try and stay afloat.

Btw, Wikipedia's Hugo Black's page is hilariously way off the mark in terms of truthful analysis.

Step 1 : Say Bring back American jobs.
