Police summoned to investigate fictional story about killing a dinosaur, student arrested

SUMMERVILLE, SC — Police were summoned to a high school after a boy wrote a story about using a gun to kill a dinosaur. The boy was searched, suspended from school, and subsequently handcuffed and arrested when he did not handle the interrogation calmly.

Alex Stone, 16, said he was assigned to come up with a fictional story for a creative writing assignment at Summerville High School on August 19, 2014. The brief assignment involved writing a few lines that were supposed to mimic a social media post; a “status update” drafted on paper.

Stone’s submission discussed himself and a fictitious dinosaur that lived next door to him. He wrote that he used a gun to kill the dinosaur.

“I killed my neighbor’s pet dinosaur, and, then, in the next status I said I bought the gun to take care of the business,” Stone said to NBC 12.

The mere mention of using a “gun” to “take care of business” prompted school administrators to phone police to report the suspicious narrative. The Summerville Police Department responded to the absurd call, expending taxpayer resources to investigate a boy’s imagination.

Without probable cause of a crime, police searched Stone’s personal belongings, his backpack, and his locker, presumably looking for a gun or a deceased dinosaur. They found neither.

As Stone was interrogated by police and school administrators, he insisted his writing was only make-believe; a joke. They continued to press him, and police documented his eventual reaction as “irate.” They placed the student in handcuffs and hauled him off to jail on a charge of disorderly conduct.

The entire experience could have been avoided if school staff would have accepted the narrative as the fantasy that it was intended to be, as prescribed by the assignment.

Such bizarre overreactions have become something to be expected in paranoid, over-policed, government-run “schools.”......Liberals are getting paranoid...

The boy must be white because this was FICTION.

If he were black, the DO”J” would celebrate actual
black on white attacks.

I fully expect that there will be a successful effort to fire 1) the teacher, and 2) the principal of this joke of a school.

I’m serious.

Citizens of Summerville, get to it.

Hound these Obamaholes.

Make their life hell.

And get rid of them.

If they feel safe in their homes, you are not doing your jobs.

It’s that serious.

Get to it.

THis kid is in real big trouble. His “vile” act is a grevious violation of the ENDANGERED SPECIE ACT. The feds are, as I type, forming the task force.
His murder of an “endangered” earth creature is one that must be justly punished to deter other “gun nuts.”

We need to commend our ever vigilant educators for their zeal in reporting this crime! God knows how many innocent Jurassic fauna have been terminated by this 9th grade fiend.

That school needs to hire a private investigator to find out where the kid hid the dinosaur’s body.

It’s gotta be somewhere.

No kidding. What did they expect him to do, smile and blow kisses at idiots who thought he was threatening to shoot his neighbor's pet dinosaur? At some point the young feller had to notice that (1) the people detaining him were batsh!t nuts, and (2) they had guns, and he didn't. I wouldn't be giggling either.

There is not an adult in this story that deserves to keep his job or pension. Absolute scum from the teacher, to the administration, to the cops.

That kid was probably arrested just for envy of that gorgeous head of hair.

I have a 16 year old grandson in S. Carolina who is in Scouts, who is extremely bright, who is a member of Jr. Naval ROTC; and who spent a week last winter in a special program at the Pentagon designed for high achieving kids interested in a career in Intelligence. I could see him being arrested for such a story and having his record ruined for possible admission to any of the Service Acadamies (one of his goals). Idjits!
