Michael Brown 'No Angel' Controversy (NYT Said Brown was "NO Angel")
BBC ^ | August 25, 2014 | Staff

The New York Times is under fire for its profile of Michael Brown, the unarmed black teenager who was shot to death by police in Ferguson, Missouri, on 9 August.

The article, which was published on Sunday, the day before Mr Brown's funeral, paints an intimate portrait of his life. It also reveals some of the personal struggles he faced in the days leading up to his death.

"Michael Brown, 18, due to be buried on Monday, was no angel, with public records and interviews with friends and family revealing both problems and promise in his young life," writes John Eligon for the New York Times.

Although the piece by Eligon, who is black, is largely sympathetic to the family and memory of Mr Brown, the words "no angel" have stirred up a media frenzy, with some questioning and castigating the New York Times for using the expression.

the words "no angel" have stirred up a media frenzy, with some questioning and castigating the New York Times for using the expression.

It reminds me of the time some white guy used the word niggardly speaking to the Washington,DC city officials, mostly black office holders. But this case is even worse to the extent these racially-moronic people will turn the world upside down, inside out, as long as it has some racially-divisive connotation they can stir up regarding any event involving black people. The author is black and to say Michael Brown was "no angel" is a common colloquial expression. But to these illiterate imbeciles, they will make the most infinitesimal leap of convoluted logic and common sense in the use of the ordinary spoken word in order to create a conflagration that suits their agenda. It's sickening, maddening and another thing that is taking America down the Fudgepack hole along with all the rest of the liberal dementia that has already ruined this nation of ours.

Angels commonly assault people a foot shorter and 100lbs lighter. Happens all the time.

Disagree? Then you’re a racist.

Non-White cop shots cell phone warrant suspect (white) - let the comparisons begin!

Critics note another double standard, one Salt Lake City residents are, thankfully, exercising completely. While they have participated in protests demanding justice for Taylor, these have not been accompanied by rioting, looting, violence, and calls for the murder of police officers — unlike in Ferguson.

Hell, I’m no angel either and wouldn’t expect to be described as one.

Come on man....we all know St. Mike was just a misunderstood teen who was defending himself against “haters”.

His family are clowns....

Uh oh, they told a little truth about St. Brown.

The black community frowns on the truth.

That had to be the first funeral I’ve ever seen for an adult where they had to put his baby picture next to the gasket in hopes of portraying the deceased as something he was not. What a crock. A joke. The “media” would refer to him a an unarmed black toddler if they thought they could get away with it.

First of all I resent a thug of 18 who is by law an adult being called a teen ager as if he were 13 or 14. That said look at this idiocy

“”Teenagers, white and black, rich and poor, are often emotionally volatile, dabble with drugs, listen to rap, attempt to rap and commit petty crimes. Does that mean they deserve to be shot?” asks Christopher Massie for the Columbia Journalism Review.” What utter nonsense. This idea that some how all teen agers are law breakers and misbehavers is alarming. The majority are hard working kids who are learning to be adults. They do not engage in gang activity, strong armed robbery, illegal drug use (I don’t care what your personal views of marijuana are), illegal drinking, etc etc etc.

How many of you have had encounters with the police when you were a teen ager or young adult? Out side of a traffic stop or perhaps a curfew warning I doubt most have not. The idea that ‘everyone does it’ didn’t fly at my house and shouldn’t be allowed to become a meme.

I read that article last night and what I found interesting is that they immediately conclude that because he was a rookie in this town that is what he learned. What I found most interesting is that he didn’t reapply to that town but rather got hired in Ferguson where he had an exemplary record
