New Yorkers are preparing for "doomsday" in a way that doesn't involve guns, bunkers, or earmarked pages in Revelations, LiveScience reports. Survivalists at one group, NYC Preppers, are planning to safely flee the city in case of a natural disaster or terrorist attack. "They simply don't have the space to build a bunker," says sociologist Anna Bounds, who is studying the survivalists. She says they devise escape routes (including by kayak), keep the car filled with gas, and figure out which home appliances are likely to work in different emergencies. They also take long walks to practice carrying a "bug-out" bag, which weighs between 20 and 25 pounds and contains survival gear like water, food, face masks, compasses, duct tape, and water filtration systems.
Just who are these people? Their political views vary, but they tend to be people of color who have seen disasters like Hurricane Katrina and know how slowly governments can respond to emergencies. They're often into sustainability and local foods, which Bounds admits is a far cry from survival in nature: "What you have to understand about New Yorkers is we're used to convenience and we're used to immediate gratification," she says. "Roughing it, for us, is not having takeout." By contrast, the FBI says a Doomsday prepper in Florida has admitted to stockpiling weapons and creating boobytraps in preparation for a Biblical apocalypse, the Tampa Bay Times reports. In exchange for turning himself in, Martin Winters received Gatorade, fries, cheeseburgers, and dry shoes, says another Times article.
A week? Why would they want to store a week’s worth of food? That would be foolish when they could just use their EBT card to get all the steak and shrimp they want. By then Frma would be right there with kobe beef and sparkling mineral water a plenty.

NYC would be a difficult place to escape from in an emergency, especially Manhattan.
I was in NYC on 9/11/01 - I needed to get back to Connecticut, the trains were shut down, luckily a co-worker who lived in Westchester had a car, but it was parked in a hospital lot that was in the middle of a large section of town on the East Side that was cordoned off (because the hospital was being used as a morgue staging area). Luckily access to the area of the parking garage was being “controlled” by a cop who happened to be in way over her head - she challenged us to provide “ID” (probably on account of not-very-clear orders that she had been given), we showed driver’s licenses and fast talked our way past her, and managed to get to the car and drive away.
But what would I have done without that? Walk across a bridge? To where, the Bronx? Good luck with that...
If the roaming hordes ever showed up in my neighborhood they would never know what hit them. Bet they don't take that into account in their Doomsday plans.

It’s an excellent survival plan as long as it’s timed properly. I got the hell out of New York City 18 years ago. In my humble opinion right about now is just about the last time that plan would be viable.
Just try getting out of NYC by car on a busy Friday afternoon. Anyone who thinks a car with a full tank of gas will be of any use in an emergency is certifiably insane.
Probably won't have to. A few traffic accidents with no one to clean up, and they'll be on foot, anyway.
If they get hit they have nobody to blame but themselves. They think Marxism is great and so is Obama, let them burn. Bush tried to help them and they turned on him the first chance they had.

Between Hurricane Sandy and 9-11-01, New York has been hit by a major disaster a decade now. That’s a valid reason to be anxious.
24 hours tops before the birds are plucking their eyes out.
Getting out might be possible by fat-tire bike, but roving gangs would have to be avoided and they will be out in force as soon as they see all that unarmed loot backed up on the freeways and bridges.
And with the Police overloaded, ferals in Manhattan will start to loot apartments and stores.
That said, the best route to safety is over the GW Bridge by mountain bike. Once on the other side, enter the Palisades Park on the north side and walk your bike through the wood to the switchback foot path down the Palisades exactly .45 miles NNE of the GW and make your way down to Henry Hudson Dr (which is protected by the cliff face of the Palisades and the ferals will be busy with the heavy loot areas). And then head north on the HH Dr to suburban safety.
Actually, a lot of NYers are in very good shape. We like to make fun of libs, but a lot of them bike, hike, kayak, and go out and do various treehugging type nature things that does set them up for natural prepping.
