New Yorkers are preparing for "doomsday" in a way that doesn't involve guns, bunkers, or earmarked pages in Revelations, LiveScience reports. Survivalists at one group, NYC Preppers, are planning to safely flee the city in case of a natural disaster or terrorist attack. "They simply don't have the space to build a bunker," says sociologist Anna Bounds, who is studying the survivalists. She says they devise escape routes (including by kayak), keep the car filled with gas, and figure out which home appliances are likely to work in different emergencies. They also take long walks to practice carrying a "bug-out" bag, which weighs between 20 and 25 pounds and contains survival gear like water, food, face masks, compasses, duct tape, and water filtration systems.
Just who are these people? Their political views vary, but they tend to be people of color who have seen disasters like Hurricane Katrina and know how slowly governments can respond to emergencies. They're often into sustainability and local foods, which Bounds admits is a far cry from survival in nature: "What you have to understand about New Yorkers is we're used to convenience and we're used to immediate gratification," she says. "Roughing it, for us, is not having takeout." By contrast, the FBI says a Doomsday prepper in Florida has admitted to stockpiling weapons and creating boobytraps in preparation for a Biblical apocalypse, the Tampa Bay Times reports. In exchange for turning himself in, Martin Winters received Gatorade, fries, cheeseburgers, and dry shoes, says another Times article.
If there was any redeeming value to the huge source of sewage and liberals, I have yet to read about it.
Preppers’ PING!!
I would want to escape with Adrienne Barbeau.
She looked pretty good as the snake charmer in the TV show ‘Carnivale’
for a lady 107 years old.
Actually, a lot of NYers are in very good shape. We like to make fun of libs, but a lot of them bike, hike, kayak, and go out and do various treehugging type nature things that does set them up for natural prepping.
Their disadvantage comes with their natural distaste for firearms. All the hiking and gardening in the world won’t help you after you run into the first evil type who decides he wants your stuff, and HE is armed. I actually saw one of these types on the NGC show and he kept insisting the “power of the community” would be able to talk to those who came with “negative” intentions, that he simply couldn’t imagine using firearms to defend himself. But I can tell you plenty of NYers have them, just keep them well hidden.
My son owns a shop in Brooklyn, I tried to talk him into buying an inflatable Kayak, to use for leaving.
In case your only escape route was by water, she would make a great flotation device.

Those people are going to kiss up to and beg gun owners to protect them.
Buddy of mine is married to her. She's actually quite dimintuve. He's still a west coast liberal. We spent our salad days performing together at local theaters in NJ.
OK, we’re waiting.
Are they .... spectacular?
I wouldn't feel comfortable. First, I'm sometimes a gentleman. Second, she's married to a friend of mine.
After the earthquake in California a few days ago, someone in emergency management said only half of the CA population had any preps for an earthquake. The backpacks I have came from a California company and if the population each had one of these backpacks, they could exist rather well for three days.
I have never understood why people reject the idea of physical sustaining life insurance - everything one would need for three days in that backpack. Grab it and go until it is known if the house is still standing and has not blown up/burned due to a gas leak.
“Water wings,” like Streisand? I figured as much.
Gravity, time, the elements= the Grand Canyon.
You could probably get a better idea at Daily Motion.
I'm OK with Hollywood types being liberal and still being good, or even great, actors.
I still think Alec Baldwin's monologue in "Glengarry, Glenross" is one of the best even though he's a total libtard in real life.
I’ll check that out. I’ve been a sucker for such things since I was a wee, toothless laddie.
I remember her in ‘Maude’. Hated any Norman Lear garbage, but she made the show and I would always check in long enough to see how Adrienne was holding up.
Terrific movie! I did on stage. The Jack Lemmon part.
‘___________only half of the CA population had any preps for an earthquake.’
*Do you remember a few years ago we Californians were told to now prepare for a week, not just 3 days - as it could take a week for help to arrive?
