Orange County police authorities, reacting to the fuming riots in Ferguson Missouri, concluded that a militarized law enforcement response is valid in heated situations, but needs to be initiated on a case-by-case basis.
The Orange County Register reported that Irvine Police Cmdr. Julia Engen claimed that Every set of circumstances is different. I dont think you will see anyone paint themselves into a corner with policy. Irvine, Anaheim, and Huntington Beach police departments, and the Orange County Sheriffs Department, all have armored vehicles which can be used to suppress riots as well as retrieve injured officers during chaotic insurgencies.
The last riot in Orange County was in July of 2013 during the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington beach, where police officers squared-off against rowdy beach goers. Chaos erupted when the crowd began tipping over portable toilets and breaking storefront windows. In that instance, military tactics and armored vehicles were not employed. Instead of using lethal weapons, police in riot gear used tear gas and nonlethal rounds to disperse the crowd. The Register reported that eight people were arrested and several officers were injured....

What does the media mean when they say “militarized police”? I heard that camouflage uniforms on police (in Ferguson) were “scaring people”. Feels like the military is being demeaned and demonized every time journalists say the word.
I’ve checked 19 definitions of the word “militarize” and, from those, I would expect a police force is already “militarized” - having a military structure or character.

Yah, every burg in the country now has its SWAT Team, staffed with Seal Team 6 wanna-be’s. I first started getting “irritated” and nervous with this trend with the Ruby Ridge and Branch Davidian massacres.
According to popular political jargon, all who are not police, including soldiers, are “civilians.”
The looters are thugs. Take em out.
Way for the police to draw entirely the wrong conclusion from the situation.
I say let them riot and allow the store owners to protect their properties accordingly.......
who needs tanks when you have armed citizens ready and with legal right to self-defend?
Having military armament does not impress thugs who know you won’t use it.
