If you think the price of a fill-up at the local service station is steep, Thomas J. Donohue will not be your favorite guy. Donohue, the President and CEO of the U. S. Chamber of Commerce, is concerned about the nations infrastructure. So much so, in fact, hes written a piece titled, Lets pave the way for infrastructure funding, in which he opines that its time to raise the gas tax.
"The U.S. Chamber believes", he writes, "that the simplest, most straightforward way to fix the Highway Trust Fund is to raise the gas tax, which hasnt been done in nearly 20 years. A modest, phased-in increase - plus indexing to inflation - would shore up the fund. This proposal has gained the support of labor and key industries, including trucking and shipping."

Remember when the Chamber used to be this benign organization that promoted fair trade, economics, and places to visit?
The CT Chamber supported the state income tax 25 years ago. The Rockford Illinois Chamber supported raising the property tax for the schools.
Hey guys, what happened to 800 BILLION dollar stimulus infrastructure fund Obama used back in 2009? Even IF we needed to build up the infrastructure, this is the WRONG guy to hand the checkbook to.
Oh, and we’re broke.
Look at the bright side...expensive gas keeps poor people off the roads and reduces congestion.
The progressives want everybody on public transportation for control purposes.
That’s why the fed gov doesn’t issue “gas stamps” to poor people.
This POS Donahue is also the guy who is also crazed about Amnesty and pushes it all the time with the RINO garbage.
The chamber of crony capitalism is so far left it isn’t funny any more
Thanks to the CofC most Americans can’t afford the price of gas as it is now -— and they want to raise it even higher?
Socialism is great for those at the top.
Very similar to fishing and hunting license fees that provide the politicos with walk around money and is never used for its stated purpose.
Well do a pilot project. Just raise the tax on commercial vehicles./ sarc
These people are one trick ponies.
Never any talk about cutting the pork 😡
Here is a thought. All that infrastructure has already been paid for. The money was looted by congresscriminals. Let them pay for the roads.
Cut spending and shift tax appropriation back to the states.
I just sold a friend’s car for him. I put $55 worth of gas into it and it only filled the tank 3/4 of the way. It was an Infinity J-35. Imagine commuting every day.
I own a really nice 2003 Marauder. I haven’t driven it in a year as it costs 12-15 dollars to take it into town and back. I drive a too-tiny Jetta TDI that is uncomfortably small but gets 40mpg which costs me only .12/mile vs .20/mile.
That makes it hard to live in the cheap places which are typically far from town. I live on 6 acres in the woods. It was cheap transportation that made this country and expensive gas that will make us all live in tiny apartments where we can easily be managed and controlled. That’s the agenda here.
Chamber of Commies.
One day it the gas prices will be so high, that it won’t be cost affective to drive to work everyday.
F em all.
They have become The Chamber of Communists.
