It’s unclear why he was armed? BECAUSE HE WORKS WITH PEOPLE WITH MENTAL ISSUES! It is, by definition, his responsibility to interact in a closed-door environment with people who are to varying degrees unable to process events and stresses in a healthy manner. I’m a lawyer and a judge. I carry in the courthouse, because there’s ALWAYS the chance somebody will seek a violent “solution” to a legal problem.

"Deliberate violence" is a curious thing to condemn because it can often be to save the lives of the one using it and others. Violence, per se, is not to be condemned; it is wrong when it is criminal, but entirely right and moral when it's to stop crime.

Philly.com elaborated further, and also included some praise for the doctor, It was not clear why Silverman, a doctor for nearly 25 years, was armed at the office

Well, duh. I'd carry everyday for 25 years in the off chance that ONE DAY IT MAY SAVE MY LIFE!

It is the same reason I have fire extinguishers on each floor, 2 weeks of food and water, insurance, maps, cash, etc in case of emergencies. I hope to never use them, but will be damn glad I have it if SHTF.

Ive gotten two businesses to quietly amend their employee “no firearms” policies when I mentioned to them that they are inferring complete protection of me walking from the parking deck to work and back everyday, and leaving my gun in the car. If I get hurt coming to or from work, I’ll sue them for denying me my rights to self defense. The laywer and CEO listened. The firearms policy now reads, “no unauthorized weapons are allowed”.

I illustrated the philosophical liberal view. It is suicidal in large and in fine. It is also widely held and informs public policy in many ways. There is no need to refute it here.

Good film if you get a chance to see it. NETFLIX

After Nolan's wife dies in childbirth during Hurricane Katrina, his newborn daughter is placed on a ventilator. When the hospital is evacuated, he stays with her, desperate to keep her alive as the storm rages around them

The brigadier intervened with pistol once or twice to save the doctor. The doctor was grateful ato least once.

In “Aliens of London”, he activates the military guards at the hospital with “Attack pattern Delta” - which I always considered kind of hypocritical, given his occasional rants against weapons in other episodes.

We live in an upside down world where saving lives is frowned upon, and ending them (especially via abortion) is applauded.

Doc will find work again no doubt.

"Armed Doctor Who, opened fire....

Instead of "Armed Doctor, who opened fire...."

My first thought was, which actor that played "Doctor Who"? and how did he get a gun? I thought they were banned in Britain....

An MD with 25 years service who shoots straight? Come on out West, Doc. You aren’t alone and we’d be glad to have you.

He is an American citizen first, a doctor second. The first will always trump the latter.

Good shooting, doc!

A lost job is replaced easily enough. A lost life on the other hand...Interesting that despite multiple hits to the chest, the perp was still listed as wounded. I guess a hospital is probably the best place to get shot.

Funny how competing harms works for protestors in the 60s destroying property to save lives of Vietnamese, but here to save lives of Americans a violation has no such protection.

keep going liberal America and bureaucratic policy idiots... Keep at it... Hell to pay.

But like alot of pizza delivery people and shop and rob clerks, he is alive (not that I condone the killing zone policy of the hospital).
