Kenneth Timmerman, writing in The New York Post, breaks open another shocking chapter in the Benghazi scandal.
The Obama administration isn’t only giving the Taliban back its commanders — it’s giving them weapons... Miliary records and sources reveal that on July 25, 2012, Taliban fighters in Kunar province successfully targeted a US Army CH-47 helicopter with a new generation Stinger missile.
The helicopter and all aboard survived the attack as it was able to crash land. But what had hit the Chinook?

I would have to search for the articles with mention of the former Gitmo detainee who was involved at Benghazi. I have this vague recollection that the person was released in 2007. I have no clue what his name is. Sorry.

They are IR-guided, not geo-limited as they have no GPS or other location tracking capability, embedded or otherwise.
They are a simple man-portable, IR tracking device with a motor and contact/proximity fuse. . .point. . .IFF. . .lock. . .launch.

Matters not how they are guided if the embedded system that is in control is location limited. There is an embedded processor in control of almost everything more sophisticated than a grenade.
You could make a simple radio that would only operate in a specific place for instance....any electronic device could be made location aware. A missile warhead could be easily made to fail depending on its location. i.e works OK in Afghanistan but fails miserably in Ohio.
Location abilities can be built into an ordinary SM package and there is little chance anyone can discover that the ability exists... I would place it inside the missile itself and not the launcher.
It is already being discussed that drones will be required by law to be location aware so that they can be limited to legally accessible airspace...the tech is so cheap and simple you can build it into a drone that only weighs a few ounces. It need not depend on GPS as there are other systems and methods.
Soon to be in the hands of terrorists in the US so they can bring down airliners.
A lot of the hand held have a short shelf life on the warhead. But if a object is moving at m-2 or better hits you it is still going to do major damage. Always remember if bad things happen in flight you can not pull over to a cloud and get out and fix it.
It would be easy to make it miss the target and easy to make the warhead fail...no problem. If you control the embedded system you control everything.
I suppose you could make the missile detonate immediately after leaving the launcher if it was being fired in an unauthorized location...ouch.
I worry about the tricks the government might play with the embedded systems in our cars...you could get into a lot of mischief playing with those systems.

You are correct. I should have said, “impeached and REMOVED”. I’ll never forget at Clinton’s impeachment, the House leaders walked the articles over to the Senate, then the Senate unanimously (if I remember that part correctly) to not convict. There was an old man (Senator) who kept rubbing the defense attorney’s arm. Disgusting.
Stingers have no such geo-limiting capability.
It has no electronics other than for basic IFF and a ‘speaker’ so the person launching the weapon can hear (and feel) if the missile is locked-on.
