Horner signed with Lampre-Merida for 2014 and was planning on a strong season as a GC contender.
But 5 days ago he was hit by a car and left for dead in a tunnel in Italy. He has a punctured lung, broken ribs and other injuries that will keep him off the bike during an extended recovery, but he says he still hopes to ride TDF.
Had he not been found before another car (or truck) came through the tunnel he would have probably been hit again and killed.
