Suggestions from other FReepers from similar threads...

Glenn Beck is coming out with e-mail for The Blaze subscribers. E-mails will end with @1791.com and it is specifically designed to compete with the snooping of Gmail.

I know there are greatly varying Freeper opinions on Beck though.

The free service only has 10mb of free storage, so you can’t store piles of old email like you can on Gmail.

The idea is that you and the person you are corresponding with both have hushmail accounts. Then your communications are secure. If you send and receive emails from people with unsecured accounts, then you might as well have an unsecured account yourself.

Completely secure is impossible with today’s situation.

email is about the worst for security.

https (secure webserver) is better.

Today, I ran across this MaskMe add-on from the makers of DoNotTrackMe.

I am still reading about it, so I can’t say whether it is worth the free download.
