Beautiful country. I so miss my home state. Born in RI but lived in VA from age of 2.

Not to be a wet blanket or something, but isn’t something like this screaming at all those 3 letter agencies “Prepper Here”!?
Probably. But it’s pretty unlikely that they are unaware of who preps. Yes, the farsighted and dedicated few who’ve bought everything with cash and lived off the grid for the past 20 years, but even dropping off the radar could attract attention if not done perfectly.
I prep because I know there’s an earthquake coming, living on a fault line; no realistic expectation of of surviving more than a few days to a week or so of general societal collapse, but that doesn’t mean be unprepared for no water, sewage or power for weeks to months.
The point of diminishing returns differs depending on the scenario one is prepping for. Not cost effective for me to prep for TEOTWAWKI, totally foolish to NOT prep for a 9.2 on the San Andreas. However I am quite willing to learn from those who’ve gone off grid, or have really thought through and acted upon a scenario involving complete and long term societal collapse.
I’d gladly show anyone my bug out bag and long term stash, indeed I’ve given speeches on what one should have - the old man survived the ‘ ‘06, but barely and with the family losing nearly everything (which wasn’t much)...
don’t get me wrong, I agree with what you say, hell, I live on the Gulf Coast. Camille, Fred, Katrina...
I’ve learned alot from the old timers, and alot of Freepers,
I just don’t like to give the Abc’s more info then they’ve already got.
But that’s just me.
True. I don’t, out of habit, now. But I’m under no illusions that if it really mattered to them, and they did a database search of firarms and reloading purchases, cross referenced with visits to sites that deal with prepping cross referenced with conservative activism and controlled for a few other factors that my name would be on the list that would be created of people who are proabaly armed, probably have a significant stash of food, etc.
But you’re right, no point in giving them any more info than necessary. Amazing, for a guy named Jose Garcia (more common than “John Smith” around here) I don’t speak Spanish worth a dang or even look very Mexican :-)
bttt
The only weekend I have free. I’ll have to scoot over there from Blacksburg
And trust me. My wife’s family was prepping on the side of Angel’s Rest Mtn when no one heard of prepping. She’s the first generation to grow up with electricity.
During the windstorm here a few years ago, I know people that lost power for 10 days.
There is a certain Klanish element in Craig County that should make this event rather interesting.
I like it, actually made me laugh, and that’s hard nowadays.
But I like that list.
