Soldier speaks out about 'target practice' that triggered SWAT scene

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – It was a wild scene in north Harris County Monday after reports of a possible sniper put two nearby schools on lockdown.

Dozens of police vehicles, including an armored truck, descended on Darbydale Crossing where several homes are under construction.

"What the people are saying is it’s someone with an AK 47… in the bushes hiding, randomly just sniping," said Teresa Moran, who lives nearby.

Air 11 flew overhead as deputies with riot shields approached a house with guns drawn.

In the end, it was all just a misunderstanding.

The soldier was shooting at a target he setup on the side of his home with an air rifle.

Wait, he was on HIS property?
They had NO reason to do this. Unless Texas considers air rifles as, "Firearms."

you have to be pretty dumb to shoot a hole in a neighbors window, and irresponsible.
i mean really.

you rally can’t complain if they freak out. i think i would call the police as well if someone punched whole in my window. wouldn’t you?

This was thoroughly unfortunate in all respects. We have a responsibility to conduct target practice in a safe manner, and hitting the window on another home is pretty convincing proof that the Iraq War veteran had not given enough thought to safety or to good manners. Homeland Security agents should have at least a little common sense, and calling in the world over a pellet ricochet is an irrational overreaction. As for SWAT, they were just doing what they always do, except that apparently no dogs were shot. I just hope this series of unfortunate events will not lead to yet another inconvenient and useless law.

a Homeland Security agent who was a potential buyer of the home was inside it at the time.

Well, I'm glad these people are protecting me.

However, I'd guess if had been a middle-eastern type character running a terrorist drill, the agent would have told the fellow "Abu akbar!"

Even if he was maliciously plinking away at someone else’s windows, calling out an armored response over a BB gun says a lot about law enforcement and the idiot that called it in.

He’d have a tough time where I live. There are people shooting real guns all the time.

HS agent called SWAT for a BB gun? He should be charged as well. If he can’t tell the difference he is an idiot and criminally stupid.

People here are ignoring the possibility he had counterfeit NFL merchandize bought at a Boston strip bar — if so that would require DHS to get paid to return to the strip bar.

For much more investigation.

You see?

It looks a whole lot to me that this world is getting more and more full of fear. This is another example. A small, unfortunate accident resulted in an anti-terrorism-scale response.

Terrorists of this age are not even so much generating the fear as riding on the crest of a wave of demonic activity. If the 9/11 events had never happened, Satan would have found something else. And God has let this fear happen because He wants us to take warning that there is something better.

Maybe I’ve been sounding like a snake oil salesman by pressing the gospel here, but it truly is the way to “get right with God.” When that happens you can be fearless again, and even better tolerate the others who aren’t as fearless. God is a God of courage. He hasn’t given us a spirit of timidity. If we choose that God will be whom we fear, then we needn’t fear anything else. What is the worst that can happen then? We die, then go to heaven.

I think the Homeland Security is a bunch of wannabe Rambos who are just as fake as the movie.
The day Bush announced the creation of the agency he was added to my list of persons inimical to American liberty.Pretty much everything Bush did in the War On Terror was BS.It has been a War On Freedom instead.

We’re on 5 acres and I’m more careful with my air rifle than he was.

Most neighbors have them for rabbit control.

but....its like mowing your lawn with scissors.....

The soldier was shooting at a target he setup on the side of his home with an air rifle. One of the projectiles (likely a BB or pellet) struck the glass at an under construction home nearby. It’s unclear if a ricochet was to blame or if it was a bad miss.

Unfortunately for the soldier, a Homeland Security agent who was a potential buyer of the home was inside it at the time. He called in an active shooter situation to local authorities.

Not saying it didn't happen as written, just that I have trouble believing this scenario. But, I have no trouble believing the over the top overreaction.

Only a few years ago such an overreaction would have made the agent an absolute laughing stock. How quickly things can change. Beware, the beast rises as we sleep.

The DHS agent was an idiot.
A real terrorist would have been much more careful and would not have been seen.
A guy practicing with a pellet gun isn’t out for concealment; he just wants to plink.
Launching a SWAY response to a pellet gun just shows that the DHS employee needs to find a job with less authoritarian complications.

In a "Just World" the Homeland Security agent would be tarred and feathered and paraded through the streets on a rail...

In the "Obamanation" such as noted in the story is just a standard course of action...

What scares me is the military like police and I fear that they have no intention of protect or service to citizens. This army is similar to Nazis beginning. We must start disbanding most police and rebuilding.
