(Rand) Paul: GOP Needs to ‘Look Like the Rest of America’ to Win Again (again)

Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul said the Republican Party has to embrace a message of optimism and “look like the rest of America” to win again.

“If we want to win again, if we want to be a bigger party, not only do we have to be a party that looks like the rest of America—black, white, brown, with tattoos, without tattoos, earrings, without earrings—we have to look like the rest of America but we also have to have a party that has the message of optimism,” said Paul in his keynote address at the American Principles Project gala on Wednesday evening.

When the GOP becomes the party of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and liberty, Republican ideas “will win the day again,” he said.

Paul suggested that Republicans should decide if they are going to “go bold” on fiscal issues or become “Democrat light.” …

That’s an irrelevant question, since “someone” is already doing it, albeit letting new ones in at the same time when they mutter the words “credible fear” and getting de facto asylum. (So in that way, the answer is “yes.”) Don’t be fooled by the media, who want all of us to go along with amnesty; if they were to be believed, then it would seem that all of us here are also on board with gay marriage.

And WADR, liberals usually come out with phrases like “stupidity about suitcase nukes”. I have encountered that in the guise of liberals not being aware of Hezbollah being among those crossing the border.

Anchor babies are Citizens. I think the estimate is 4 or 5 million. No one is deporting them.

Rand Paul is talking about legalizing 12-20 million illegals some of them recent. If 2,3 or 4 million illegals self deported based on an economic collapse or enforcement and the illegals were kept at 10 million flat forever that would be a good thing. Maybe 1 million Mexicans have left while Bush and Obama pandered to them.

I hate to bust your bubble but there isn’t one conservative superstar out there who isn’t going to disappoint you on this issue in the end.

Face reality or be a child.

Even Krikorian doesn’t think it is a big deal.

In other words, the problem of U.S.-citizen children born to illegal aliens is a symptom of excessive illegal immigration, not a cause. In a sense, it’s parallel to the left’s Cold War mania for arms control — so long as the Soviet Union existed, arms control agreements were meaningless because Moscow had no intention of complying. Once the USSR ended up in the ash-heap of history, arms control agreements were rendered irrelevant because the Russians were no longer trying to take over the world.

Allen West has not sold out on immigration.

The problem is Rand is leading the charge with Boehner’s legalization idea.

I dont have much problem with Rand running for president because Congress has to pass the amnesty. My issue is whether it hurts him with GOP base and midwest non Hispanics.

Glad to see Trey Gowdy’s name in your line-up. That guy never disappoints me.

Tea Party enthusiasm in 2010 was off the charts high.
Big Banks were in huge trouble. Obamacare had just passed
in the middle of night without a single republican vote in congress.

Like I said I hope I am wrong and you are right about 2014.
But the entrenched power of Dept of Justice under Holder worries me. President Zero has much deeper tentacles including IRS, EPA, all the hundreds of judges he has appointed since 2010, unpopular Iraq war if done, Afghan war is winding down, Osama has been killed etc etc.

Again, if republicans do no unite, including the GOPe, then do not be shocked if DemoRats hold the senate in 2014.

Trey Gowdy has more brass ones than most others in congress.
But can he connect with all the voters like Reagan could. I never remember seeing Reagan angry. Reagan could make a point without seeming like an angry white man. In today’s world no one can win a national election without attracting votes from several groups.

Republicans need to embrace a Conservative message to win. Right now they have nothing but attacks on the base!

I hope I’m right too; at least I don’t think I’m wrong about the populace, judging by similar trends in the European Union. If the GOP-e fails again, the crisis could be too much to handle, even for Obama’s vaunted militarized police forces. People are sick of the Uniparty.

Allen West has not sold out on immigration.

Its not about selling out, its about accepting reality. If he was president he would also end up having to tell you that millions of illegals are going to stay and anyone who believes otherwise is an idiot.

Reality is another amnesty isn’t going to solve the problem. Reality is a middle class crushing increase in legal immigration won’t solve the problem .

I am surprised to see a freeper defending criminal aliens and pushing open borders. Don’t be an absolutist. There are simple things like deporting criminal aliens, employer sanctions and requiring self deportation for adjustment of status that are possible.

However, nothing can happen with the obama in the WH. He chose this lawless path and not us.

Morons like you are so desperately terrified of the truth that you’ll come up with any lie to ignore it.

Be a man and face facts, we will not be shipping out generations of illegals who were born here. It has nothing to do with what I want or what I like and everything to do with simple fact.

Refusing to face reality only helps politicians to continue kicking the can down the road. Maybe you should be demanding to know what exactly it is that your heroes will do beyond some vague “No amnesty” statement. You’re going to be disappointed because not 1 is going to tell you that we’re going to get rid of every last illegal.

I don't understand all the bellyaching. Paul is right. The Republican party will not win with just white factory owners voting for it. The Tea Party will not win with just a few white constitutionalists voting for them. What Paul is referring to is not that we should change the message or principles but sell the message and principles to people who now think they have to have a nanny state. He is right. If the majority want something different than a constitutional republic then we have to change the majority.

We don't have a majority thinking our way now or we would have the Senate and the White House, we have to make the people with tattoos understand what it is they have and should want. We have to make those getting government handouts understand how awful their life is compared to how good it could be if they had a job or better yet their own company.

Paul is right and I am glad someone finally sees it.

So, would you say that Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream was wrong?

I would.

The only thing that matter in America 2014 is a person’s skin color. Not one thing else is of any importance at all in this country.

Personally, I’m not really interested in helping anyone understand anything, because people are just about as stupid as stupid can be.

They might understand where they went wrong when this society completely collapses, but my guess is that they won’t.

Perhaps they will understand survival of the fittest at that point, but my guess is that they won’t.

I think it’s time for hard, hard lessons to be learned.

Rand is implying Romney lost because he got 27% not 40% of the Hispanic vote. And that Bush would have done better amongst Minority Democrat.

Democrats and liberals say the GOP only gets old white men to vote. How can the GOP get 48 or 49% of the vote if only old white men vote Republican?

Millions of illegals are going to stay.

But with Rand-Boehner’s plan we will end up with 20 or 30 million illegals officially in 10 or 20 years time.

Illegals didn’t arrive as fast when McCain, Ted Kennedy and Mike Pence’s amnesty plans were rejected. Illegal immigration is having a growth spurt now because Republican leaders are considering amnesty.

Rand also proposes more low skilled legal immigrants and guest workers who will overstay visas in record numbers.
