When we were kids we did something better.
We sawed the tip of the cartridge off with a hacksaw.
Then we cut the heads off about 5 - 6 books of paper matches and stuffed them inside.
The last match you leave whole and put in backward - that’s the fuse.
When lit, the matches inside combust, but the gas is trapped by the paper residue - up to a point. When the critical gas mass is achieved it blows out the stuff from the cartridge and makes a dandy little rocket.
We got some of them to fly over 100 feet.
Never did that and I’m now thinking I haven’t lived.
