Nossir. He may have included a parting shot ("you get what you vote for"), but he betrayed his country. The pain this will cause will be Biblical in scope.
Everyone knows he was blackmailed. He should have come forward, told about what he was being blackmailed about, refused to comply with the blackmailer, and asked for a VERY large VERY serious investigation on the blackmail.
He would have been a hero the stature of George Washington.
