If you havent been in a bubble cut off from all forms of media lately, it would be impossible to have missed all of the warnings being issued about the impending loss of our electrical grid.
This isnt just coming from so-called gloom and doom sites or from alternative media. Major mainstream media sources such as ABC News, the Washington Post, the New York Times, and CBS News have all issued the alerts. Unfortunately, the hordes seem to be brushing these warnings off as something that cannot happen, because the reality is too unpleasant to even contemplate. Many seem to think that they are far better to stick their heads in the sand and be assured it can never happen than to prepare ahead of time.
Who Is Ringing the Warning Bell?
In case youve missed it, here are some of the warnings over the past few months that most people are ignoring.
When Janet Napolitano stepped down from her role as head of the DHS she released an open letter to her successor. One chilling tidbit she passed on was this.
The outgoing Homeland Security Secretary has a warning for her successor: A massive and serious cyber attack on the U.S. homeland is coming, and a natural disaster the likes of which the nation has never seen is also likely on its way.

We definately need to update the ‘internet is down’ ping list.
OMG! I'm, like, totally unprepared!!
I have my own shelter, power, water, game, firearms, ammo, foodstuff, paper products,...
...BUT NO BASKETBALL!!
You must tell me, where did you manage to come across such a worthy item? I must obtain one, but I haven't seen one in person in, geez, 30 years.... :)
Nice setup. You are pretty far south compared to me. I have to tell you that here, at 46.5° N Latitude, in January and December the panel output is negligible — enough to maintain the bank at full charge but not enough to bring it up from a discharged state in any reasonable time, especially when overcast/foggy. Plus, the T-105 batteries being so dang cold have a lot less oomph. The other thing we have to deal with is 70 mph gusts off the mountains trying to rip panels off mounts. But at least we won’t have to deal with hoards of zombies.
From what I’ve heard about artesian wells you’ve got to be careful about what you put on them that regulates the flow or they can stop flowing.
A friend of mine had an artesian well on their property and they don’t know why the well stopped flowing for sure but it stopped right after they necked down the flow to make an outdoor shower for when swimmers got out of the lake.
I have two goal zero 1250s with the solar panels. I have used it at the office when the power went down because some idiot ran into a power pole. It kept the phones and the lab fridge and analyzer going. The nice thing is that you can use it inside and it’s quiet. But, you need to be judicious about how many machines you run.
Keeping along the same line of thought
The second wave.
The main problem jihadis have is the response from the authorities with superior firepower. After a day or two of no lights, then the cell network will not be functioning. That means that when they carry out an act, then no one can call for help on their cell phones. If they sabotage the landline telephone network, then they wont be able to call for help at all. You will truly be on your own. When the jihadis attack in your area, you wont be able to call for outside help. It will up to the local people to put down the attack.
You will have to physically drive to a police station to get the police.
Remember where someone intentionally cut a fiber into a town a while ago and disabled all the communications to the outside world, including police dispatch. That was a test to see if sabotage would generate the desired result.
All those reports of dry runs that you have seen people reporting. What if all of them use that time to launch their true attack.
The people wont be able to call the police. And the police wont be able to call for outside help because all communication with the outside world will be lost. They will have to physically drive to the neighboring town to muster outside help at first.
It will literally be one on one fighting at first.
After a while, people will fall back to two way radio. Police will start monitoring cb for local calls for help, and they will use vhf and HF to call for outside help, but it will take time for people to get things straightened out. That will be the time they can do the most damage.
To use gravity and an artisan well, a drop from the source of about six to eight feet over distance is useful, then the pump can gurgle happily along pumping back much higher using a reduced diameter piping. There are some nice vids on youtube of rife-ram pumps in action.
I have my own well (7 inch steel casing) and the water level is at about 75 feet below grade. It has always occurred to me that in an extended emergency, I could disconnect and haul out my electrical submersible pump and then design something that could be used to haul out pails of water by hand. Alternatively, I’m wondering if there is some sort of positive displacement pump that could be dropped into the well but operated at ground level by hand using ropes. I would just transfer over the pipe from the electrical submersible pump to this temporary one to bring up the water. Has anyone ever seen this done? It would seem that the problem would be to keep the pump stable so that it wouldn’t be flopping all over the place since it would just be suspended at the end of a heavy duty plastic pipe.
Your basketballs are so screwed.
Who knows? I don't know what others will do to cause trouble or what nature will do, but I do know what I can do and did. I have a solar panel and charger and rechargeable batteries to last a few years and will have light and running fans, and heat and food and ways to cook, plenty of water, medical supplies, toilet supplies, personal sanitation and security.
What I don't have is “booze”, as in liquor. Guess while others are robbing grocery stores, I'll hit the liquor store. (that is a joke) :o)
Early-on, I’ll bring you over a pitcher of good vodka, dirty martinis ... got olives?
“Ill plan on mounting zombies on stationary bikes for lights, about 10/15 watts ea.”
LMAO!! No how about dat for reducing your carbon footprint!
I’ll have to check it out.
Another thing with an artesian well, you can always hook up a waterwheel for power.
Seems like a small wind generator would be perfect for ya.
Wonder how many folks would actually know how to built and utilize a water wheel for geared power to drive machinery? with newer materials like PVC, I imagine some really neat units could be built!
It would — but too small of a lot to get the permit. I could keep one in the package and erect it only during the outage, though. In fact, had one for a while then sold it.
75 feet, you can get a regular hand pump for that depth.
You could probable put it in without having to remove your other pump.
No way. Wait. (Sound of calculator keys furiously clicking.) OK, yeah. That would work. Are you sure the NSA isn't going to come after me when I order 150 stationary bikes and a train car full of brains?
There are lots of basic pumps/piping that you could buy now for a kilobuck, and then upgrade when you have the time, to solar/battery, or other powered options.
